Vanar ramp, working surprisingly well

Hello, here is my latest version of a ramp deck, that got me into S-rank from top of rank 3 with so far a 12-2 record (a tiny sample, but I started to play this updated version tonight).

After trying to rank up with a dumb but efficient Magmar deck (dumb because the concept is just put overpowered card such as makantor, thunderhorn and such in the deck), and a nice Vetruvian structure deck (nice but RNG of dervish spawn just crap on you sometime, I’m looking at you Trygon Obelysk), I decided to try for fun an update of my okayish ramp deck, having lost any ambition to reack S-rank after a very bad loss streak after being one win away from the S-rank graal.

But enough chitchat.

Ramp fast, but without sacrifying too many cards/health/ board presence. With 8 (yes 8, really) 7 or 8 drops, you have the advantage in the late game, so be conservative.
It’s almost impossible to lose before reaching 9 mana with this deck, but you need to be in good shape.
I had fewer big drops in older versions, but update after update I kept adding more big minions, as you are dead if you do not draw into many of them.

Card choices:

  • Sojourner: The deck obviously needs something to draw, and I chose this over Circulus because I do not want to draw into illusions after replacing them, they pollute the deck. But it’s a close call.

  • Shivers: more mana acceleration, but I’m not absolutely convinced, as Vanar, Abyssian and Songhai eat those. You should not play them against those factions if possible.

  • Thunderhorn: My latest additon along Luminous charge. I needed mid game presence. Without them the opponent had a too big board advantage or I had too few hp left when I started to summon the big guys. And it draws out their removal.

  • Aspect of Shimzar: because of Thunderhorn. The 2 mana cost is a big liability though when comparing to Aspect of the Ravager, as you cannot play this and an 8 drop. Close call.

  • Concealing shroud: It helps, but it could be changed for something else.

  • Luminous charge: Again, some mid game presence, it’s just so annoying. It should not be good in this deck, but it works, I don’t know how
If played when you have 7 or mana mana, opponents will fear Winter’s wake and often lose minions and health to destroy them

  • Azure herald: needed healing and a 2 drop. It could be Healing Mystic instead.

  • The big guns: EMP is MVP of the deck, even with the lack of synergy with Luminous charge and Embla
Embla was a 3-of, but it performed worse than expected. And sometimes playing 2 in a row in not what you want to do because of leftover walls.
Dagona works well, as you have dispel if needed.
Ghost Seraphim should be a 2-of, when followed by Frostburn or Luminous charge it’s so good. But I own only 1 copy.
Meltdown is a test, replacing a copy of Embla. Test has been positive, I would like a second copy, maybe in place of the last Embla, or a Dagona I don’t know. Be wary of Superior Mirage though (won a game like this with my structure deck, it was hilarious).

I know that people will suggest to get rid of 1-of, but in this deck I feel you need to have diversity in the big drops, as you have often 2 of 3 in hand, so you can chose the one most adapted to the situation.

Mulligan strategy is to search for the mana accelerators, but you need to keep one big drop in your hand (preferably a 7 drop).

I takes a bit of time to close a game, but usually the opponent cannot handle the 3rd or 4th big guy.

Maybe I just got lucky, but maybe the deck is really good, as I’m not one of the very best player for sure and got nice results with it.

I hope you’ll like it.

I would suggest increasing 1-ofs to at least 2-ofs. Aside from that please burn in hell for your crimes against humanity nice deck. Looks really fun and interactive.

Polarity has been very fun if you really don’t want concealing shroud, but want lower spells to play with bigger minions

How can you only own 1 copy of ghost seraphim??? Isn’t it from Ancient Bonds?

@hulk12345: Oh yeah you are right, I’ve probably mixed it up with another big minion that I have only one copy. So +1 Ghost Seraphim, and let’s say -1 Embla

@isgopet: Yeah, the deck is not the most fun to play with, and probably not the most fun to play against either. :stuck_out_tongue:

(You may want to put the “@” near the name with no space, in order to trigger people, like this : @hulk12345 / @isgopet )
