Have someone to care for!
Anime question:
I have a few days of alone downtime between school and summer work.
Any anime recommendations? A friend recommended Anohana, is it worth the watch? Also heard good things about that one where the girls go to Antarctica.
Anohana made me cry like a little girl. Highly recommended.
Otherwise, is there a particular genre you’d prefer?
is re zero a genre?
Awesome I’ll check it out!
I like to have a little bit of everything, so feel free to just post your personal favourites!
I was really into setting-based, otherworldly shows, like made in Abyss, Ancient Magus’ bride, and Miyazaki films for a while, and I’d like something more grounded/down to earth.
Here’s a list of ones that left a good impression on me:
Kino’s Journey
Haibane Renmei
Kyousougiga
Yakitate!! Japan
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai (Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day)
Erased
Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Death Parade
Durarara!!!
Baccano!
Paranoia Agent
Charlotte
Orange
ReLIFE
Steins;Gate
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Cowboy Bebop
Tatami Galaxy
I dunno if any of them quite fit the ‘setting-based, otherworldly’ concept, but Kyousougiga and Grimagar are probably the closest as far as that’s concerned.
Of the ones listed, Kyousougiga is the one I think I’d most recommend to you. Check 'em out at your leisure, however.
I have not watched half of these, thanks for the recommendations. I did binge watch Baccano! and liked it a lot.
If you read a summary of it, do not expect it to be like or better than the anime it will remind you of.
If you’ve not seen Durarara!!!, it’s from the same writer as Bacano! I wouldn’t really recommend the second run, however.
Otherwise, if anyone wants more in depth opinion about any of these shows I’m happy to share.
I’ve liked everything on the list that I have seen (about a third of it), so already this looks like some good stuff!
@phoenixtoasches, Baccano was the Jam!
This is why we have a contract…
Because these are the first in my mind, as well
I would snap a picture of those two in my collection but they’re currently being borrowed by persons who need to seem them (everyone who hasn’t).
Those two were the first two shows that made a very good impression on me and I will love them forever. You on the other hand, while permitted to watch them (as I am benevolent and kind), need to wash your hands of your filth before ever touching them.
I have all but one of the haibane pencil boards that came with the dvds back in the day. I own three different sets of it.
And the Hermes license plate…
@excogitator…I also think that The Tower of Druaga is worth checking out…
To add onto Longshot’s list, I would recommend Trigun (a good 90’s show), Daily lives of highschool boys (a good comedy), Flying Witch (a slow paced slice of life), One Punch Man (a parody type of show on the Shounen genre) and Kuroko no Basket (a basketball show, if you like sports).
…and Excel Saga if you like crazy.
Another underrated one is Nerima Daikon Brothers
Jin-Roh is good. Not a show, though
Stellvia
Kiddy Grade…weird name, but it does have good stuff
Full Metal Panic
I’m actually on the last episode of Trigun right now. I wish I could share Vash’s ideals, but some people do need to die, especially if they are trying to kill the entire human race. You cannot save the butterfly and the spider, you either kill one or allow the other to be killed. Inaction is a choice just as much as taking action.
Badlands Rumble is good, too. Don’t forget to watch it.
Daily Lives of Highschool Boys is a good comedy, but all of its material is rather perverted. Some of it’s not, though. Personally my favorite comedies are Yakitate Japan and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
I’ve not seen Kuroko no Basket, but as far as sports anime is concerned Hajime no Ippo and Haikyuu are amazing.
Are you sure we watched the same show? There are some scenes that can be seen like that, but certainly not all of it. There is another show which is far worse, where 90% of it is just sex jokes, innuendo and references. But admittedly I did also laugh at that show as well.
I’m exaggerating, for sure. Though that comedy is a big turn off for me in big batches (which may be part of the reason I remember that so much). There are a lot of segments specifically about the boys wearing girl’s underwear so…
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoy the parody comedy the show has.
For clarity’s sake, I watched about 6 episodes I think. I will revisit it in the future.
Think all those scenes are in the first half of the season, which is probably you remember those since you haven’t seen the rest. There isn’t that many of those kind of scenes in the show as a whole though.
