Also funny how everyone in my year think it’s weird that I don’t watch anime.
The Purification Crusade
I actually do find it weird. Sorry.
try Shin Sekai Yori, or Steins;Gate, my top 2.
I really don’t understand all the hype about this oneme thingy. I mean, they are just one more kind of video one may watch. I watched and liked some anime, disliked the others, just the same as with other movies.
In short, I really don’t understand why they divide anime and not anime. Why don’t divide video by British movies and non British movies? I really love British humour, btw.
P.S. And still I have anime character on my profile picture somehow…
What’s that?
Just tell me, what’s so special about anime that it is like subculture?
It’s the unique way things are shown and the Japanese culture is what I have observed.
Anime itself doesn’t appeal to a majority, it only appeals to otakus exclusively. Personally, I classify anime as subculture because it does shit nothing else does and intentionally tries to diverge from convention. Check out old arthouse films or the shorts of artists like Shintaro Kago. Some of the most creative things out there.
Are we not including Pokemon, Digimon, Beyblade etc then? Since those did appeal to a majority.
I’m not otaku. I like many anime.
But I don’t like Miyazaki somehow.
You also forgot Naruto, @gsvalhalla. I dunno, seems like one of the most popular cancer.
I was thinking more along the lines of childhood anime that a lot of people would have grown up with. But we could also include the big 3 of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece.
Edit: and Dragonball Z
Edit. And Sailormoon
And Cardcaptor Sakura?
Edit: and Yugioh.
I’m making quite a bold statement here, but I don’t consider things like Pokemon as good examples of anime. I’d rather define them as animated advertisements for toys and video games.
There are definitely some shows that became really popular outside of Japan, but they’re rare exceptions, being aired on television and such. I have a feeling that it won’t be likely for many anime will reach that status of commonplaceness. (Even such a “commonplaceness” is extremely dwarfed in comparison to other mainstream forms of media, like Hollywood movies or Disney films.)
I agree that when most normies think anime, the first ones coming to mind would be Naruto and DragonBall, but I personally do believe Naruto is an amazing anime, I teared up during the Zabuza arc and I don’t even have emotions. Shippuden qas still really good, but in reality, when they sag it is 800 episodes long, you should probably divide that number by 4. Boruto does suck and is cancer, it is doing what Metal Gear Survive did and is running off a well known franchise name. If it weren’t for Naruto himself and the others being there, it would just be another generic shounen anime.
There is actually a video out there explaining the statistics as to why certain animes got huge such as Naruto, DragonBall, Bleach then Swordart online and then My hero. It’s a periodical thing.
@oranos, I think only one person recognized me, but most people don’t. Its possible some do, but they are just shy and don’t talk. Everyone, if you see me, I am actually a nice person if we speak one-to-one, I just have a rougher exterior in public cause all these haters out to get me, but I gotta keep dat hustle goin naw mean?
I should mention, though, that I will not be playing for a long while because I really want to focus on getting better at adulting and because my new laptop will not be able to run duelyst. One too many rage quits broke my old one. So if I am not on the forums or on Duelyst as frequent, that is the reason why.
Also, wtf is that new like button? Me no likey change, me break change with rock.
I like the minimalist “non Profile Pic” placeholder thing you got goin’ on there…
Yeah, I was planning on leaving the game and Forums permanently and deleting my accounts so changing my profile picture was gonna be the start of it. But I have decided to stay in the forums because there are still interesting conversations going on here and I would like to remain part of them.
I think I will keep it though, it looks a tongue forever sticking out just emphasize my troll status. : p
I voted Space Dandy but it depends what you are in the mood for. Comedy, emotion, drama, story, combat, philosophy?
Cool action, drama, philosophy, and mental trauma.
Then the same could be said for almost all anime. As most are done to encourage people to buy the manga, light novel, games, figures, etc. The anime itself is usually just an advertisement to sell other products, since not many anime actual make enough money back from just the anime show to be worth it.
