The possibility of an art book

Since the very disappointing non-appearance of the promised kickstarter art book for Duelyst, a game with absolutely gorgeous artwork, I recently got these news on the art book for a newly released board game:

Now, if a tiny board game company can manage to produce a well-designed art book, how could Counterplay fail to comply with their kickstarter? The company behind this War of Mine definitely do not have more resources than Counterplay, so something else must be going on.

I don’t want to defend CPG but your assumptions are faulty.

  1. You can’t compare board game production to a video game production. It works totally different and it is way easier to calculate how much money you need.
  2. This “tiny board game company” (did you look what kind of people are behind that project?) got over 620k British pound which is over 15 times their required amount of 40k. Duelyst got only $137k which was double the amount. So even currency ignoring there is a huge discrepancy.
  3. Back to argument number 1. The board game gets developed, shipped and it is done. (Maybe they decide at some point in the future to develop an expansion.)
Duelyst (and video games in general) need way more work after delievering them. Especially F2P games. Patches, balancing, new stuff, etc.

So while your complaint is valid your comparison and logic isn’t. The board game War of Mine definitely has more resources than CPG.
