Tested and Proven Budget Deck - Vetruvian - 1380 Spirit

Heyo all, I’ve set out a personal goal to make and test budget decks for all factions into gold. The purpose of this was because I feel like most budget decks (or expensive decks that suggest alternate cheaper cards) are often made, but not necessarily tested.

I put this out here in hopes to help ambitious new players in achieving gold rank.

Previous faction-proven deck:

  1. Magmar - 1340 Spirit
Vetruvian Deck - 1380 Spirit

About This Deck

As pre-AB Vetruvian decks go, there have always been some known weak spots. Vetruvian’s struggle more against ranged minions, and don’t have the heal/sustain or individual trading power that Lyonar or Vaath (Magmar) can provide. This deck’s main focus is in (1) almost always sticking to the enemy general’s face and (2) almost always having the minion numbers advantage.

As you play this deck, you will notice a trend of either slowly developing a small swarm (about 3 or 4 minions) and/or have a health advantage.

Sticking to their face is incredibly important! (Note, this does not necessarily mean attacking their face.)

If you are shy of a card or two, placing an extra one in another spot will keep the same overall strength. As long as you have at least 2 copies of any certain card. Golden Mantella can probably be the most flexed/swapped out card with others, such as Sojourner, Void Hunter, Blaze Hound and Spelljammer.

[details=How to Play This Deck]As P1T1 (Player 1, Turn 1), I usually play slow/limited, but Jax and Staff are great.

P2T1 has more options/combos available (which can be done as P1T2). Primarily:
Tiger+1st Wish, Golden Mantella +
central Battle Pet, Sun Seer on general’s side.

As the game develops, our deck has some good deck flexibility: 2nd Wishing anything will be effective, even if it’s just an ephemeral shroud. Bone Swarm and BTA for pings, Falcius for more dmg if we need. 1st Wish to trade up against other minions, or to keep ranged jaxi’s out of ping (one) damage abilities.

Sun Seer >> Healing Mystic

For this deck, Sun Seer is a great card and focal point. By deck flexibility, Sun Seer allows the potential for multiple heal procs, allowing for 2, 4, 6 or even 8 hp back. What we are looking for here is to abuse as many free procs as we can. Even naturally, Sun Seer’s 2/4 stat line will usually get at least 2 hits. Getting 3 or 4 is where we are really getting some good value out of this card.

Sun Seer + Blindscorch, SS + 2nd Wish, SS + 1st wish are all solid combos that keep minion advantage while simultaneously sustaining our general’s health.

For ANYONE who plays vetruvian and has Healing Mystic with blindscorch, 1st wish, and/or 2nd wishes in their deck, I highly recommend trying Sun Seer over Healing Mystic.

Thanks for reading and hope this helps any new players looking to break into gold for their first time

If anyone tries out either of these decks, please let me know how it turned out for you.

Mystic instead of Herald would lower the spirit value for the same effect. I think Sun Seer and Blind Scorch could also go in favor of things like Pax. Artifact is likely suboptimal as well, but budget choices are hard.

Mystic over Herald is a good idea. Sun Seer has played a good role in all my games, so there would be a trade-off of losing sustain for more swarm.

Artifact has been inconsistent, so replacing with something else is a consideration, though I’d recommend players try first before coming to a judgment. My aim with it was to be in conjunction with Blind Scorch or Falcius. Getting the extra procs are nice, but the combo(s) usually means dipping further down on hand size.

Haha I can’t even make this budget deck because I only have 1 stars fury. Any substitution suggestions?

Stars fury is kinda an important card I’m guessing

You should probably open up some orbs and try to get the spirit

I tried alternatives like scarab. It makes it more difficult, but you could try. Obviously if you have good legendaries like Aymara or Nosh-rak, you can use those.

If you don’t have those, a 2nd Star’s fury is highly recommended. Getting spirit from disenchanting other cards should be able to get you 350 fairly easily (bad legendary cards or prismatics are good sources of spirit). Prismatics always disenchant for full value, but you’d want to ask us players here about what legendaries you have and if it’s advisable to DE them or not.

I chose Stars Fury in my deck because it is a solid staple card and it is one that newer players should not experience any regret for having spent spirit to craft. Even if you choose to not like and play Vet, then come back to it later, this card will still be relevant.

Budget aggro Zirix, untested. But should fare well in silver
Problem with the deck is that is lacks ranged removal, you want BoA to replace entropic asap. and the deck doesn’t run any dispel. Uses falcius and entropic for removal.
Note the falcius and flame blood combo, flame blood doesn’t do dmg to Zirix the turn falcius is played
The thing about playing on a budget is to dust all prismatic and useless legendaries, focus on 1 or 2 factions lets you dust other faction epics and legendaries as well.
