Suggestion to Devs Regarding Shimzar Packs and Gauntlet

Before I start – apologies if this topic has already been commented on by the devs. I’m not aware of any comment on it one way or the other, but if they have done so, please let me know below!

I haven’t played Hearthstone in about two years now, and at least part of the reason for that was Blizzard’s decision on how to distribute packs from arena for the game’s first expansion, Goblins vs Gnomes. I have no idea if it still operates the same way today, but at that time, Blizzard decided to distribute packs won in arena randomly, rather than letting the player choose his / her pack rewards. After playing the game through beta and up to that release, for over a year at that point, I already had most of those cards from the core set.

As someone who plays Gauntlet regularly, I just want to give my input that I really hope that the devs do not follow Hearthstone’s path on this decision. Even for those of us who love the gameplay of limited formats (like gauntlet) often also are very attached to the desire to build our card collection reliably while playing. We like to feel like we are working towards something that will have a reliable and tangible payoff if we succeed. When that is no longer the case, it takes some of the excitement away from the mode – and at least in my case with HS, once my interest faded in arena, it also slowly faded overall from the game itself.

My suggestion would be to allow the player to choose what packs Gauntlet will reward through an option toggled in the main menu. Either that, or allow the player to exchange one of any spirit orb for one of any other type.
