Songhai & Vetruvian Deck Critique

Thought it couldn’t hurt to ask for any feedback on my most regular decks. Both I play reasonably comfortably in Ranks 15 - 5, though I find Hallow Lyonar to be my main weakness (whether that be down to my decks or my playstyle; unsure).

Spellhai+Pets (V.3)
3) - Decklist
Basically keep cycling spells, all the while chipping away at the enenmy General. Battle Pet synergy in the form of Xho, Coil and Mantella are included. Little bit of Blood Surge synergy.

Obelysk+Weps (V.2)
2) - Decklist
A fairly less consistent deck than the former. This uses Sajj as a wrecking ball to maintain board presence while attempting to cement Obelysks on the board. Zephyr’s help make favourable trades and Whisper of the Sands allows me to use any silenced Obelysks lying around that the enemy won’t bother to destroy.

In all honesty pets are just bad, you would be better off without them and just running good midrangey cards.

The vet list is more interesting, however you are running a lot of 1x cards, which is a bad idea, it lowers the consistancy of your deck which is never a good thing. You are also running some bad cards: stone to spears is terrible, sand sister saon is underwelming (though I do have an ok list with her in it), psychic conduit is a dead card most of the time, staff of ykir is just not worth it, thunderclap is far too slow and also requires trading life, and sajj is just worse than zirix for obelysks. If you want to play sajj obelysks then go ahead and do it, you can get to s easily with it, however you are making you list worse by doing this. Rant about bad cards aside, the most important thing here is to avoid 1x cards whenever possible, and try to limit 2x cards too.

No. Battle pets are trash. You could just replace those and play some FAR better synergies, or increase your 2 ofs and 1 ofs to 3 ofs. You have no reason to be playing Mana Vortex, Mana Forger, or Mirror Meld. If you’re going for burn as opposed to aggro, I’d up the Spears to a 3 of, include Geomancer, up the Cryptographer to a 3 of, add Battle Panddos, and maybe add 8g8s. However, if you do go the aggro route, you could try aiming for something like this:

This is the list I run, and it’s kind of like a pyromaniac toddler. While the babysitter (your opponent) is easily able to get rid of most of the fires the toddler starts, the toddler only needs one fire to stick and then the house is burned down (you win).

Another alternative is Artifact Reva (a.k.a. One Woman Reva, a.k.a. Run and Shoot Reva, a.k.a. Stand still and let me hit you for once you son of a bitch Reva).

I don’t have as much experience with this list as I do with Aggro Reva, but this fits your desired playstyle quite well.

Of course, if you have a budget or don’t have some cards, we can discuss other options.

Oh, and there’s also Midrange Reva, a board based Songhai list, but I have literally no experience with that list, so you’ll have to ask someone else.

I have very little Vetruvian experience, but I do know that you have wayyyy too many 1 ofs. You really never should have one ofs, and you should really only ever have like six-ish two ofs.

TL;DR

Pets are bad, aim for 3 ofs.

I don’t really agree with the “battle pets are bad in general” sentiment, but your “Battle pet package” in particular is kinda bad, that’s for sure. What’s the point of running Xho and Mantella? There are far better options for card draw available in Songhai. If you want to have a Battle pet component in your Deck you should run Ion/Sol/Ghoulie along with buffs like killing edge/Saberspine for suprise lethals. It’s still more on the meme side of things but at least it adds something relevant to the deck.

+1 Cryptographer
-1 Manaforger
-3 Mirror Meld
+3 of whatever you think is best

Reasons:
Manaforger sucks for anything that isn’t turn 1, so fills your want as a 1 of. 99% of the time a 2nd one will never serve a purpose. Adding crypto in place of it, another heartseeker/bbs will always serve a purpose.

You don’t have any use to mirror meld any 2 drop. No buffs, no purpose.

If you’re doing battle pets, I’d throw in a yun’s or koi’s maybe? If you’re doing battle pet with yun though, healing mystic would be a good fit with it though.

Really don’t recommend Obelysks with Sajj. I know that some pretty cool people have tried it (because Reassemble is amazing,) but Obelysks really want to be played with cards like Dunecaster and Third Wish- and having a general who is trying to edge ahead by making favorable trades isn’t going to help you get ahead with that pool of cards.

If you have access to Thunderclaps, why not just build a deck around building that kind of card advantage? Superior Mirage is beyond stellar tech from the new set that will slot right in- and you’ll be in a passable position against some Cassyva and Vaath builds.

I find mirror melding Xho to increase my yield of discounted spells to be useful; can also go rather well with coil, attacking with 2 minions.
Hadn’t considered those battle pets. May very well swap out Mentella’s for such things.

Any cards you might recommend in a more thunderclap-orientated deck, devoid of obelisks?

A lot of those cards is indeed due to a lack of spirit to craft more apt cards.

No man, don’t do remove Mantella, remove some of the more unthematic cards.

The main problem with your list is that it’s trying to do too much. You’re better off just remaking the deck at this point, it’s too scattered. Do you have Discord? If you so, DM me and we can make a list.
