Songarc - Wanting improvement suggestions

Now I’m not a Songhai player, but I’ve been trying to just play Songhai this season for fun and decided to make an Arcanyst deck. Although I like the deck as it is now, I feel like having more experienced Songhai players input could improve the deck or give alternative ideas while working round an Arcanyst base. The basic idea of the deck is to use the powerful Arcanyst abilities, along side with Songhai spells to outmove or overpower the opponent.

I think the deck has too few 2 drops, only 6, 2 or less mana minions, give only like a ~70% chance of giving a T1P1 play.

Twilight fox is not useful enough as a 3 drop with no backstab shenanigans. Mirror Meld given there are only 6, 2 drops, should not be that useful. Sparrowhawk is not a good 3 drop, it’s more of an okay Blue Conjurer pull. It’s bond, it’s 3 mana and it has 2 hp, not worth the slot. Loreweaver when there are only 15 inherent spells in the deck, not that good a chance to pull a spell.

this is just a list i put together in a minute, probably not clearly thought out, but i think it’s a decent Songhai Arcanyst deck

Loreweaver and Twilight Fox are trash, cut them for Owlbeast and Aethermaster. Owlbeast is a core part of any and all Arcanyst Decks. I’d also say cut Meld for Illusionist, and use Reva instead of Kaleos, but those are more up to you. Fit two Onyx Bear Seals in there somewhere too, you have no removal. You should also cut Sparrowhawk for Kindling if you have everyone’s favorite fire panda.

Long story short, play this

Thanks for the suggestions, took on board some of them. Others I’ve ignored because I don’t have the cards like Onyx bear seal, or personal preference due to how I play.

If you don’t have OBS, you gonna have a rough time with any control/midrange Songhai deck :frowning:
Same goes for Arcanyst, Owlbeast is staple, without it, it’s gonna be harder.

If you really want to play Songhai, maybe you should avoid the temptation of “Arcanysm” and try Aggro, last one posted by @kingw is pretty efficient.

Playing the more normal (maybe standard is a better word) decks or archetypes for most factions I find is pretty boring. Nothing wrong with them, I just like playing with (and against) decks that are more unusual or rarely seen. Helps to keep the game more entertaining rather than playing the same/similar decks over and over. Thanks for the Aggro suggestion but I won’t be taking it up.

Well kaleos arcanyst is already very unusual, i very rarely see a kaleos in ladder and never seen a kaleos arcanyst. So even by taking this list, your deck will be very unusual

However Trinity wing and Conjurer are in every arcanyst deck, so that’s up to you
There are two cards that totally unfit the deck: Twilight Fox and Mirror Meld. The first doesnt fit the arcanyst theme at all. Mirror meld works with chakri, but if you don’t have chakri, it is a dead card.
Onyx Bear Seal is a staple for songhai and is the only real removal spell you have, think about it.

Well I have already removed Fox, Mirror and Loreweaver. The only reason I don’t use Onyx Bear Seal is because I have 0 copies of the card. So its not absent from my deck through my own choice.

If you want to keep some “Arcanyst synergy” and still get some sort of removal, you can add Lighbenders. It’s not hard removal but should help, and will combo with Trinity and SparrowHawk which is really “meh” compared to a 4WM, considering you don’t have much decent heavies to use with MDS.

Or you can add some Hamons, they fit nicely with both Lightbenders and Sparrohawk.
