So... y ripper hax celerity?

The Ripper Combo is fine, but I get why everybody hates it nowadays with the never-ending WandererRag and BuildRag bandwagons.

I’d go with Alplod’s idea of nerfing the Rippers to 2/1, if there has to be a nerf at all that is.

You guys just need to play Aggro Reva (not OWA/Artifact, just Aggro) or Aggro Kaleos, those are the most powerful decks atm, or at least the most effective Magmar counters as they kill any Mag deck way before they get to develop anything. This is coming from a Mag main before you ask.

Well, the discussion wasnt about the most powerful deck though, it was just about ripper itself

Sure, let’s not judge Ripper alone and consider other cards as well. How about Greater Fortitude for a 2 mana 10 damage burst? Maybe you can also throw in a Primordial Gazer into the mix, and don’t forget to Lava Lance afterwards. Oh, and have you ever tried Thumping Wave?

Here i have to disagree, 10 damage for 6 mana and 2 cards (cause the bbs is not in your hand) is actually the most insane burst in the entire game for this amount of cards/mana. The problem imho is that celerity minion are really powerfull and a bbs that creates celerity dudes multiple times during a game is not good.

To be honest I always thought 1 mana +2/+2 buff is too damn powerful. Hai had +3/0 buff for 1 turn that cost 1 mana and it was nerfed to 2 mana. No other faction has that mana efficient buff.

not that I want to disagree about ripper combos being stupid (they are) but songhai can do 10 damage at 5 mana with saberspine seal + bangle :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s also the fact that it’s a bbs, meaning that rippers are cheap and always available, making ripper combos way easier to pull off than any other 2 card combo.

I think he means that there are Magmar players and there are Starhorn players. As if they were different factions. I agree, in the sense that, someone attracted to Mag is in it for the raw power, whereas a burn oriented guy will move towards Songhai, which means its like you’re not all that fond of Mag’s main identity gimmick if you’re playing burn in it. Youre not in it for the reptilian, you’re in it for Decispikes. Decispikes is a faction.

Dont worry about them, the lizards always have an answer.

Well - an old discussion. There were times where Magmar was all about big, fat and sticky. And control. I don’t want to say that they are not about this today but Spikes is the opposite of exactly this. Also: Spike damage is bad! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I don’t think Magmar would be killed but Ragnora would be. I also feel Magmar would not have any Meta viable deck without Ripper in it’s actual state. Not counting Wanderer (which I really hate concept-wise) and Spikes (see above). This said I think Magmar lost it’s original identity.

I’m a Magmar only player. So I know how unhealthy Thumping was - until it got nerfed.

As a Magmar only I can tell that one of the reasons I don’t play the game that much I once did is said identity loss of the faction. I don’t think the situation is fatal. You still can play “controllier” variants of Smash Vaath. You just can’t win tournaments with it.
And not to forget - I’m biased.

So, considering that even after an hipotetical nerf, magmar would keep 2 top tier archetypes i will take the risk, since there are faction who have 0 or 1 top tier atm.

Also i think eggmar would still be a thing even without celerity

Before Ripper (read: Ragnora) Eggmar was nothing but a meme.
Afaik we don’t have any information about a Ripper nerf. And I don’t see a critical mass of players complaining about Ripper. Magmar always was the faction most complained about in general.
In my very own universe Ripper is fine as it is.

(I don’t want to appear snotty but I’m out of the discussion now. This is not the “State of Magmar”-thread and Ripper is more a matter of taste as it seems, so… Lovers love and haters hate.)

As far as I know, Vanar, Hai, Abyss, Lyonar and Vet each had their hate times.

I think that Hai is the most generally hated faction. Bias?

The main problem I see with Ripper is that with it being too powerful, besides his own things (Eggmar, Combo & Wanderer) Rag starts stealing archetypes that “belong” (imo) to other generals. If you can run GF in the deck, he’s probably the best general for it. Golem, Self-Harm, Apex, Control… the list goes on.

See, that I wholeheartedly agree with and it is pretty annoying. Rag’s starting to feel like Faie in that the other two generals in the faction are completely out-done in just about every situation. At least Starhorn still has the signature DeciSpikes combo and he seems better at buff-based lists so far.

Vaath though, it seems only I play the OG lizard nowadays :sob:
