So, are Songhai and Lyonar still dominating? [General Meta Questions]

I’m back again, hopefully this time for longer then last.

I want to know, hows the meta shifted after Ancient Bonds? Are songhai and lyonar still crushing, or have we entered the fabled control meta? I’ve been playing a little bit but I’m up at rank 25, so I wouldn’t really know what’s going on down in silver and gold. Is Golem Lyonar viable? I was meaning the try that but never got around to it.

  1. Disruption Faie
  2. Arcanyst Abyssian
  3. Midrange Magmar
  4. Golem Vetruvian
  5. Tempo Lyonar
  6. Midrange Songhai

That’s overall anyway

Ayyy been a while, aside from that

what the heck is Disruption Faie? I can wrap my head around the other ones, but not that. Also damn, did not expect Golem Vet to be Meta, is it because of Dreamshaper? or is sirocco actually good?

The two top decks at the moment (as far as I’m aware) are disruption/arcanyst Faie and tempo Vaath, despite the recent nerfs to enfeeble, thumping wave, and meltdown.

Lyonar and Songhai are pretty much balanced with the other 2 factions I think, but I have been seing a lot more Vetruvian on the ladder than the others (bar Magmar and Vanar) for some reason, no idea if that is just human bias though.

Given how slow faie is I guess this counts as a control meta, not that I am a big fan of it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Golem Lyonar is probably viable, but no one is using it, so I have no idea.

Disruption faie is an arctype that completely stops you from lettimg you do what you want, with all of vanar’s ridiculous removal, while keeping hand size due to blue conjurer and circulus, it also has great ramp due to mana death grip so it gets to the lategame pretty fast too. All in all it is a really annoying deck to face.

Sounds horrific. Would you say it’s worse then old reva?

Healynar and Songhai are the more skill based factions right now.

Yay my mains! Although I’m out of practice so I expect to get stomped.

Personally I think it is worse as at least those games ended fast and some of these faie decks have a win-con of boring you to death, but I might just be remembering wrong.

Well… I’d say it is better, not due to Faie herself but because even the less favored generals/factions have got more tools to execute their game plans, so while you often feel you lost because your opponent is Faie, at least you are less likely to feel you only lost because you are playing Zi’ran/Sajj/Starhorn… not that they are meta currently :robot: :sun_with_face: :crocodile:

Don’t worry. Lyonar’'s and Songhai’s play styles haven’t really changed since you left. I’m sure you’ll pick it back up in no time. :grinning: It’ll just be a matter of figuring out what to play around.

There’s this new artifact for Songhai (Bangle of Blunding Strike), which gives your general Celerity for 3 mana, so artifact variants of Songhai have gotten more popular if that interests you,

It wins tournaments. Not sure about the climate up in Q Rank but it isn’t that bad in constructed.

Q rank? I tried playing with it, but I always ended up having a very poor early game, trying to survive through Kelaino and Void Pulses, until I could hit the lategame and win with Death Knell. It was pretty well objectively worse than my main Creep Deck. (Still weak to early game aggression, but without the board control Creep porvides)

(To an extent, your problem is playing it as Cass - try it as Lilithe)

I wouldn’t call this a control meta, but that’s more because control isn’t really a concept here. It’s the standard removal meta with the best removal deck currently topping the standings. Control implies that you make decisions to mitigate your opponent’s offense while building towards a win con–the top decks in this meta run lots of removal to negate every option the opponent has in the time it takes them to close out the game, usually via a card that required no specific build-up. Since you can’t, as their opponent, wrest control of the game from them, that’s not really the line the deck is playing along.
