I haven’t really checked the lore, but on the homepage and on the old duelyst website there are art depicting Lyonar vs Songhai, which is where I mainly got the idea that Songhai and Lyonar had some form of rivalry/counterpartism
Shimzar Spoilers day 17: Afterblaze
Looks good on paper, but it will probably be bad in practice. Lyonar wants to play either utility spells or really strong spells such as DB and Holy Immo to take advantage of his strong minions surviving. This one goes under the latter category and it doesn’t even compare.
I would love to see that fight happen. Vaath wouldn’t even summon minions: he would just go total face and use earth sphere, artifacts, and bounded life force (or at least thats what I think would happen).
Look at the chapter “The Twin Empires” that’s about as close as it gets to hinting that they are indeed counterparts.
I’m ready to see The Immortal Vaath smash right through two Silverguards barehanded before an Ironcliffe is dropped Titanfall-style onto the battlefield. Then they wrestle.
still waiting for vaath to put on wolverine… oops i mean adamantine claws and rip that ironcliffe in half
1st turn: Azureite Lion
2nd turn: THIS
If the opponent has a bad draw,i can call GG.
On another hand i love this card, but im grumpy because i have watched enough seasons of “Divine Bond and F.R.I.E.N.D.S” to know this card, although a common,is dangerous.
Also, gauntlet.Need me to explain what i mean? This thing wins boards->games with a silverguard/lion.
If Lions with Divine Bond aren’t scary enough then adding an Afterblaze is.
- Azure Lion 2/3
- Afterblaze 4/7
- Divine Bond 11/7 (22 damage with celerity)
- Roar 13/7 (26 damage with celerity, OTK!
)
Seems pretty gud
Lyonar gets another great tool in gauntlet in the common rarity. I would argue that this is even better than killing edge in gauntlet. Generally, zeal minions are better than backstab minions in gauntlet (with the possible exception of the new Solaris card) and the extra health and small boost in attack makes the affected minions more durable as well as allow low drops to trade many for one.
Let’s do some math.
If you have a 2/1 minion (ie. Bloodtear Alchemist):
Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 4 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 9 damage
Divine Bond + Divine Bond + Divine Bond= 5 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 14 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 15 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Afterblaze = 8 damage
If you have a 3/5 minion (ie: Silverguard Knight):
Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 13 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 14 damage
Divine Bond + Divine Bond + Divine Bond= 18 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 23 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 20 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Afterblaze = 9 damage
If you have a 3/10 minion (ie. Ironcliffe Guardian):
Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 23 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 19 damage
Divine Bond + Divine Bond + Divine Bond= 33 damage
Afterblaze + Divine Bond + Divine Bond = 33 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Divine Bond = 25 damage
Afterblaze + Afterblaze + Afterblaze = 9 damage
As you can see…as long as you have 1 Divine Bond, Afterblaze roughly functions as another Divine Bond. So while this card doesn’t increase the chance of a single Divine Bond, it doubles the chance of an effective double or triple Divine Bond.
You just made me twice as hyped for this card. Thx!
Very powerful card, seems like I’ll be switching from Songhai to Lyonar XD
Big dudes standing and staring at each other and smacking each other in the face…works for me ^^
Two questions:
- If a Minion has previously been targeted by Lionheart Blessing, does Afterblaze’s cantrip work on it?
- Do dispelled Minions that had Zeal prior to being dispelled trigger Afterblaze’s cantrip (I assume not)?
Oh, please no… This sounds terrible
It’s terrible alright, no way it will ever work out like that. Lyonar is all about establishing board control and using a single DB, two if you’re lucky for lethal. It’s a lot harder to do so when you have card such as Afterblaze in your deck which is just a poor buff made for faction which is extremely vulnerable to removal.
It’s very easy to make a bad card look good with some fancy math, but that’s not how things end up working in an actual match where best case scenario happens very rarely.
I would agree if the card could not draw you a card.
I think Afterblaze has all the ingredients to be great: it gives you immediate value (+2+4 buff you can use right away), replace itself and if you can use the buff for additional turns it is only a bonus. Does it mean it will be played in every Lyonar deck? Not necessarily, but saying the card is terrible is laughable.
Definitely agree on that, the double afterblaze/DB is not going to be easy to set up especially with the Divine bond nerf. The card is good but not because of that.
I agree with you. I ran the extra numbers because I like numbers. But I also pointed out that this card only shines in the “double DB” arena. If you draw this “instead of” Divine Bond, it’s not nearly as good. It’s the gamble that you take. If you only want a single DB, then don’t run this. If you like pulling the double DB, this card will help you a lot.
