Knee-jerk review of the newly revealed cards incoming! Warning, itās fairly negative.
[details=Lyonar] * Draining Wave is hyper-tempo, not pleased to see it at all (either in Gauntlet or Constructed).
- Prism Barrier is hypo-tempo, and is an extreme waste of an expansion card slot (also abysmal in Gauntlet).[/details]
Songhai
* What even happened here? Songhai drew the shortest stick by far. These cards are so deeply uninteresting and redundant, itās unfathomable. I sincerely hope Saberspine Seal is getting some significant change, otherwise I would argue for hyper-redundancy.
[details=Vetruvian] * Divine Spark: A fine card, and itāll certainly see play in both Gauntlet and Constructed.
- Incinera: Love this card. Simple yet effective, and helps push the proximity theme. Very nicely done across all dimensions.
- Autarchās Gift: A fascinating, condensed card, but I think it may be too overcosted for Constructed. In Gauntlet, I wonāt mind experimenting with this.[/details]
[details=Abyssian]* Aphotic Drain: This card is absolutely terrible, andI donāt see where this fits, as 3x Kelaino should provide more than enough healing for a Swarm Lilithe. Zero constructed playability, and at common it will seriously impair Abyssianās draftability.
- Grandmaster Variax: Hoooooly wow, every other faction got shafted, as this Grandmaster is super fun. Iām assuming the Wraithlings become 5/5ās via Wraithling Fury. If so, that is phenomenal. However, I really donāt like the cheesy, Hearthstone-esque wording at all (āTOTALLY TUBULARā).[/details]
[details=Magmar] * Again, what is even going on here. CPG had so much options on the table in terms of Eggmar/Growmar, and they go and waste it all on even more uninteractive Aggro. Very disappointed.
- Entropic Gaze: Are you kidding me? Tectonic Spikes wasnāt enough, we need another spell that does the exact same thing just a little differently. 4 damage for 2 mana is disgusting, and Magmar will surely be bale to draw into all 3 copies with ease. This is so absurdly unbalanced that I seriously wonder at the competency of the team. Also, itās quite the mixed message to talk about supporting control playstyles in the Dev Talk while printing absurdities like this.
- Valknuās Seal: Is an actually interesting and creative design, but I donāt exactly understand how it fully works. For instance, is the spirit treated as another General, or is it pure stats? If pure stats, itās terrible.
- Rancour: A terrifyingly effective Aggro 2-drop. Possibly balanced on its own, but not with cards like Tectonic Spikes and Elucidator. Again, whereās the thought process here?[/details]
[details=Vanar] * Frigid Corona: Fairly average. I mean it certainly pushes towards an legitimate Freeze Faie, but Iām not sure if itāll actually make the cut.
- Myriad: Iād consider this just below average, and Iām not sure why 3/4 wasnāt considered as a stat distribution.
- Sleet Dasher: Also below average. I wish this couldāve gotten the Vespyr tag instead. May be a fine board control minion for Kara (whom sees no play).[/details]
Neutral
* Cryptographer: We all saw this one coming. Itās a fine minion, and it may be able to fit in Freeze Faie (but not sure where else). A fine pick for Gauntlet, especially Reva and Faie.
