Rift Starter Decks Review (ALL FACTIONS)

Hi guys! I put together an image that shows all the starter decks for each faction in Rift mode. I hope it helps some of you decide which deck you’d like to start your Rift journey on. Which faction do you feel starts off the strongest? The weakest?

If you’re interested in hearing my thoughts on them I’ve also made a review

Imo Vet and Songhai have the stronger basic decks with multiple turn 1 plays, but Vanar’s top tier removal set and Lyonar’s DB + Silverguard make them great picks for forward thinkers (not to mention the awesome power of Faie’s BBS). Abyssian’s is probably the worst: it’s split between two barely-viable archetypes and packs the least useful cards from both.

These were pretty much my thoughts as well! The lack of 2 drops really hurts lyonar early on though, in my opinion. Early board control is crucial for having a healthy body down the line for a divine bond finisher. Whereas I feel Songhai and Vet can focus more on complimenting cards to reinforce their strengths.

If Lyonar isn’t the first Rift faction that you pick, I’m just imaging the scenario where you don’t start with the 5 replaces to help make up for that early game weakness. Those are going to be some painful first handful of matches and its weird to think that you’re hoping you get the luxury of something like a Primus Fist for enduring it all …

To be fair though, I haven’t tried Lyonar in Rift yet, I’ll see if i can try it out later today!

I feel like Abyssian has the worst basic deck out of them all, wraithling swarm is pretty costy (considering that cryptographer existed now), crawler is out of place and the fact that abyssian plays splits on two different archetypes, swarm and creep, complimented by different general. Creep is basically bad without any abyssal jugg or any sort of cards utilizing that, due to it’s low damage. Swarm on the other hand, thankfully has less problems with the basic deck due to a wincon already there (soulshatter and watcher).
Feels like creating creep abyssian will be very stressful due to terrible starter deck.

Hey overcharge! nice seeing ya again, I remember some of our gauntlet matches.

Agreed, I mention in my review Cassyva and Zir’an are the most underwhelming because of lack of synergy with the starter decks and how much you’ll have to grind just for some semblance of functionality.

http://www.bagoum.com/ladder?srank=0 <-- The Rift Ladder (be sure to click on Draft only) sort of proves this with only 1 Cassyva in the top 50 and no Zir’an.

lel i didn’t replace snowpiercers cuz i got a dawn’s eye eks dee

(Psst you shouldn’t be replacing Snowpiercers ANYWAY - being able to hit 5 atk from thin air is extremely useful)
