I don’t think I’ve played against a single opponent using Maehv since the update. What happened? Does she not synergise well with the new cards or am I just missing the Maehv mains?
Post-IV Meahv decks?
The new general didn’t got full support when it comes to raw power and late game, even ragnora and shidai are running on old decks.
The new expansion got them in, they will get more support in the upcoming ones.
Btw - i played against several and their decks were clanky and heavy so i see why people will prefer lilith or cass.
ive played against a few, but they arent very good
they usually run sarlac, dying wish synergies, and basically no new cards
ironically lilithe got more support than maehv
I’m tinkering with an aggro-ish deck with her currently- I think she’s super cool (obvs) and I think she’s really quite strong…it just seems that the only flavor of Abyss right now is Abhorrent Unbirth Lilithe. Honestly I don’t think it’s all that good, though- like many decks, if it gets a dream hand it looks super strong. And more importantly- I don’t think it’s very fun either.
^ also very true, which is exactly what I’m trying to get around with the list I’m building. I’ll post it here after a few matches.
It seems like sajj got all the tools that would make maehv great
Maehv decks are the same since IV, nothing new to improve her decks. I expect she’ll be a dead general come 2018 without heavy new support, Gnasher and Prophet carry her pretty hard not to mention the loss of Sphere.
Yeah. Noticed that brutality. Loss of cheap draw, AoE and particularly Prophet seems like a deathblow to Maehv. Hopefully the next expansion has decent replacements but I doubt they can replace these 3 easily. Gnasher and Prophet are so valuable to Maehv.
@gooop Looking forward to it. I really have no high level viable Abyssian deck as I lack a lot of Legendaries including Desulator. Maehv really interested me but the incoming rotation and lack of expac support seems to have hit her usefulness hard.
What maehv wants for xpac-mas is a geomancer
That ressurects friendly tokens instead of throwing fire birds
I run a very nice Gate to the Undervault deck, with alternative wincon’s of Betrayal and Moonrider. Fun to play, but not really competitive. Think about 45% win in Diamond
I might have some super cheeky meme deck in mind. Gotta do some testin (and need 1 more game to unlock)
Maehv had replaced Cass as the general for my Sarlac deck, but it’s a little problematic. The deck wants to stall until late game, but her BBS hurts. This makes it a bit hard to correctly plan it my turns. I can try to have board presence to keep myself alive, but doing that literally kills me.
I think there’s some definite fun potential with her. Like @gooop, I was originally thinking of crypto to get more 4/4’s out, but I think a slower and paced approach may work out too.
The approach may not be best then.
Like @whyb0t said, prophet is great as it’s a 2 mana 4/4. Gnasher is another solid card. I think Rescue-RX is another very suited card for 1st turns that may be overlooked. Nightsorrow Assassin has more viability now as removal and transform.
Noticing things about Meahv
Opening Gambits
Just from Prophet and Nightsorrow, we can see the potential of using strong opening gambits on weak stat-lined minions due to the concept of self-transforming. By this, additional cards that may be opened up:
Maw
Nightsorrow Assassin
Prophet
Sol (hyper meme)
Abjudicator/Alcuin Loremaster
Mantella (if bad battle pet)
Sunset Paragon
Grimes
Desolator
Dying Wish
Similarly and more known, this can be used in conjunction for pressing constant minions out or for immediate effects. (Not listing because most of these are likely already known and considered.)
Trading Out
Due to minions to be exhausted after using her BBS we can look to use her BBS as a way to trade a minion to 1 hp and then transform it. This allows for higher attack minion threats than maybe wouldn’t normally be used:
Wings of Paradise
Sword of Mechazor
Dioltas
Razorcrag Golem
Sanguinar
Cacophynos
Dealing with the problem (self-infliction)
The biggest issue in trying to maximize all this stuff is mitigating the self damage. Because of this, looking for a more controlled approach in getting 4/4 minions out there may need to be considered. Because of this, we obviously want to consider healing cards where possible/suited:
Spectral Blade (solid T1 start and healing over duration)
Void Pulse (doesn’t seem ideal, but suitable)
Aphotic Drain (more suited for after we’ve used our 4/4 hound once maybe? still doesn’t seem ideal)
Azure Herald (great sacrifice for 4/4)
Healing Mystic (more flexible than azure for opting to heal a high ATK minion)
Rescue-RX (to me, this card seems almost perfect for Meahv, great heal that’s delayed with an traded sacrifice body after)
Emerald Rejuvanator (more suited for a deck that is looking to go longer with cards like Desolator)
Grove Lion
Other interaction cards:
Prophet + BBS
Azure Herald + BBS
Redsteel Minos + 1 mana minion + BBS
Blood Siren + Nightsorrow Assassin + BBS
Whiplash + BBS (a lot of self-damage, can this be avoided/addressed?)
+More, but too many to look through and consider
I think Meahv has some great potential that is overlooked due to the unusual playstyle and harder piloting that she is can bring to the game.
@whyb0t @deathsadvocate @isbee @oranos @johnbob78 tagging for abyssian mains. Dunno if @deathsadvocate is, but I figured you can make good decks out of my approaches.
Abyssian actually looks to be one of the most fun factions to me right now, so I might try all these things out, although Mech meta seriously drives me away from the game.
Now there’s an interesting idea…
hmmmm might aphotic drain be decent in maehv with sarlac?
maybe something like this?
i know reliquerian makes a relic that steals health from the enemy general which is great for maehv lategame and it combos well with arcane devourer for +8 attack at 1 extra mana
i really dont know how to tweak this into viability
I think you just need to pick some cards to cut. I vote Arcane Devourer and maybe Reliquarian, although the artifact could be great for her.
@seraphicreaper I wouldn’t bother trying Spectral Blade (or any artifacts) with Maehv due to the inherent BBS antisynergy, and I also think Aphotic Drain is too tempo-negative for a general as tempo reliant as Maehv.
I currently run both 2 drop healers, Desolator, Void Pulse and Prophet, although I’ll probably be swapping Mystics for Rescue. I absolutely wanna try Grove Lion as well but I just don’t have the spirit to spare for that experiment (need that Reliquarian!)
I’m still really trying to construct a even halfway decent deck; really difficult, but Meahv might just be the counter to Mantra decks everywhere because of the prophet synergy.
I recommend taking Deathsadvocate’s list and modifying it from there. I swapped Mystics for Rescue, Nekomata for Jammer and made some 2ofs so I had room for Rev, although I’m probably cutting it. There’s not much room in Maehv lists, too many cards you have to play or else be at a disadvantage.
I am an Abyssian main, I just play a ton of stuff. Sometimes it gets put on the backburner due to struggling.
Right now they have a ton of potential, I had an insane winrate with Maehv pre-iv, and I just have not gotten around to updating her yet. Tons of stuff I am working on. Magmar is geting more attention right now since they went from ok to top of the pack so I am exploring all of their ins and outs so I can A. get some easy laddering/tournament play since the decks are a lot easier to figure out, and B. so I can learn out to counter it.
