On Sprites: An adventure in content

Afternoon everyone.

Now, I wasn 't sure where to put this, but i feel as if it’ll fit here, considering pixel art and the like fall under media…

I’ll be brief, I was curious as to how the artists for Duelyst work. I’ve been infatuated with the what I would call amazing pixel art and sprites that the game boasts, and I would really like to learn how all this is done - i.e. what size canvas would you use? Brush tools? What program do you make these in? I’ve been trying to get into sprite artistry myself, but I have no Idea where to begin, so I swallowed pride and decided I’d just say it.

for the love of all that is holy immolation, HELP.

I know there was art stream some time ago, but due to a sudden (and completely unexplained) IP ban, I couldn’t access twitch to watch, and ended up missing the whole thing. I’ve made effort to find it, but can’t seem to, so i figured I’d ask directly.

So, if it’s not too much, could I get some pointers? Thanks in advance…

There’s a link in here somewhere for the VOD.
Also, that’s a pretty bad title, not gonna lie.

The vod is here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/117061646

the title of this thread man. i don’t even know what to say.

also good luck with your search.

^ This is the animating process of Sylvertounge Corsair (however it’s spelled). He uses photoshop in this video. The creator of the video, Glauber Kotaki, also has videos on creating some of the game’s sprites, such as Chaos Elemental.

^This is shows the animating process of The Scientist by Adam Kling. He uses Graphics Gale to animate sprites.

If you want to learn how to create pixel art though, their is a way to make it (in a more tedious process from my past experience). You can use Windows Paint to create sprite sheets (although I don’t believe they have an animating process), where you will use the pencil tool on the lowest settings to create each individual pixel. The problem is that you would have to create each individual frame by hand, although it is more time consuming than it is hard.

Hope this helps .

I think the perfect learning tool for animate pixel art is Piskel

It’s free, it’s simple and already ultra-adapted to make pixel art creation.
