Here we have it, folks! The winner of the grand Vex design contest, designed by @schoolmanatee:

This card will be entering Duelyst with the next expansion, which will also contain the changes to the gold system, Duelyst: Battle Royale, some new keywords, a new Abyssian General, and the deletion of the Songhai Empire!
[Official] Vex Design Contest Winner!
Deaths would be eternally happy.
Who?
Deathsadvocate. I bet you heard of him.
Nevermind. You summoned him, so he could answer your question himself)
Best. Expansion. Ever.
But, but…where will hamon bae go?
I’m sorry. I didn’t want this to happen, but the devs are unyielding…
This whole ordeal is quite strange. But I guess I will spell things out despite that I am likely taking this way more seriously then I should.
Definitely not a fan of Vex, or any form of RNG or System that removes player skill, counterplay, or positioning. Vex seems to be all the above.
Abyss is certainly my favorite faction, but I would rather the current generals get more love then get another general. As for why @alplod made the quip about me being happy about this, that is likely a combination of my love for abyss and sort of the community pastime to take my opinions regarding Songhai out of context and reinterpret them as unbridled and unjustified hate towards the faction, making my dislike for spellhai sort of a long running joke. A topic I have tried to avoid talking about for some time due to the amount of teasing I get for it. But to clarify my stance:
I have never wanted Songhai deleted, in theory I love Songhai but they are unfortunately riddled with some things that are very unhealthy for the game, like burn, zendo, and things that completely ignore positioning. Duelyst is a tactical board game, what makes duelyst great is the board, anything that ignores this IMO does not really have a place in a board game and belongs in a card game where such tactics are actually often my favorite approach.
Burn is fine when it targets minions, but not so much when it is used as a wincondition to avoid using the board, a little here and there is fine but not when it is the primary gameplan. I have long pushed for more sources Kage Lightning and less sources of Phoenix Fire. Which in theory would make the faction both more powerful and more healthy.
In theory I absolutely love backstab, teleports, and I absolutely Adore Kaleos. If all teleports where strong cheap cards that added more buffs then they do but had a limited range like two or three spaces like Kaleos they would be amazing! I have long pushed for buffing backstab and teleports in general, but limiting their range. Because unfortunately instead of the cool, skillful, position focused gameplay they could create we instead have the unlimited range, unconditional pair of Jux and Mistdragon. Which compound together as if it was not annoying enough to try and play against one, dealing with both is far worse.
I want songhai to be great, I want them to be powerful, I want them to get over all buffed in general, but I want them to be made healthy, as most of their decks in their current form, despite having a decently high skill cap, tend to be very unhealthy and uninteractive decks that have little to no counterplay, have almost nothing to do with the opponent, and are almost entirely based on the songhai players draws and execution.
Pretty much the definition of arti-spellhai
Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll reprint Hamon for Kaleos Reborn decks
Hamon the Fallen One
5 mana 12/4 Abyssian minion
At the start of your turn, destroy a random friendly minion (that is not this minion) and a random opponent minion.
Well then. I wondered why it was taking you so long to write…
It seems to be RNG at first, but take a closer look. This creates a whole new layer of strategy, based entirely off the positioning of new minions.
Then you should be glad that he’s the only piece of Songhai that will live on.
Unfortunately it is too late for that…

I was just teasing you. I’m really sorry if I was being annoying. As you said yourself it’s just a long running joke.
Your fine, yours was friendly and clearly in jest. There are others that are usually quite the opposite.
