Obelysk deck help

Hi guys, fairly new player here. I started playing the game a week or so ago and have been greatly enjoying it so far. Took an immediate liking to Obelysk decks and have managed to build this:

https://imgur.com/sd20K4z

It’s been working out pretty nicely and I’m currently silver in ranked. It started out pretty basic and I’ve been slowly crafting the key cards when I could. One thing I have noticed though is that pretty much all decklists that I can find for Obelysk are pretty outdated, containing cards that are now out of rotation.

How can I further improve it? I’m planning to craft a couple LiTS and Third Wishes but what other cards could be more optimal, and what cards should I drop?

Welcome to the Duelyst forums! I can’t help you with your deck, but I promise you there are several great folks here that can.

I would recommend something like this, basing off your current deck and status as a new player as a decent cheap deck.

deckLandscapeVetruvian%20(1)

Lost in the Desert really needs Thunderhorn to go with it, because when players try to play around Thunderhorn they’ll end up playing into Lost which makes it a somewhat easier setup. Both are epic cards so can be quite costly to spend spirit on. Personally, 3rd Wish is too expensive to realistically add to your deck for now.

I think I saw that decklist around while looking before. Is Accomulonimbus really worth running? I’ve opted for Star’s Fury as well as Gust over those for burst, although I’ve not had much of a chance to test out the Star’s Fury’s yet as they were a recent addition due to getting both copies from packs. Seems like it could have huge potential though.

As for Duskdrinker, I opted instead to run 2x Duskweaver as they can sometimes give you a Third Wish which can be huge.

I’ve also played around with running a couple Arid Unmaking’s as they can be used on wind dervishes that get a bad spawn or on Duskweaver to instantly proc him. Not sure if it’s worth running them though. The Skyppies are basically just there to fill the gap where Falcius’ would go. Not sure how good they will actually be as I haven’t had a chance to use them yet.

So I shouldn’t bother with LitS unless I run Thunderhorn? Good to know

I’m not the best person to ask, but Accomulonibus can be. Since it doesn’t rely on your opponent’s positioning as much as Star’s Fury. Its more on where your general is in relation to what is happening on the board. Plus with the Intensify effect you get more Wind Dervishes each time you play it, which can come in handy.

Duskdrinker can provide that extra bit of damage to kill your opponent, or help remove durability off enemy artifacts when you don’t have Rasha’s Curse to do that instantly. Duskweaver can give you the right spell, but it doesn’t challenge the board as hard as Duskdrinker. It could be down to player preference, really. If you like Duskweaver you can always keep it in. After all this is just advice and you can take away as much or as little as you like.

Its best in combination with Thunderhorn, since without Thunderhorn you’ll find it harder to get your opponent to play into it.

Oh snap, didn’t notice that it’s intensify. Yea, I might run those instead then.

I did previously run 3 Duskdrinkers but I removed them because I thought that you had to have them on the board to proc the intensify of the next played and so on. I’ll probably put them back in though.

I came up with this. I reckon that Portal Guardian would synergise well with all of the dervish summoning in the deck and fill the 3 drop spot nicely. Superior Mirage also seems like it would work well, but I feel like I could be being a bit greedy having 10 5 drops.

Welcome to the Imperium!

While I’m excited to see you enjoy Obelysks, which was my favorite Deck for about a year and a half of Duelyst and with over 2k games played with it. The Archetype is pretty garbage now in Standard with the loss of our very strong early game cards, Falcius and Whispers of Sands. Which in turn makes the Deck and Archetype an uphill climb to get any viable deck to work with it.

It’s not a bad deck it’s just a weak deck. You do not have a solid win condition anymore with Whispers of Sands being rotated out, and if people say Accumulonimbus for Obelysks they are wrong and right. While Accumulonimbus wins games and has Synergy with one Obelysk card Fire Blaze Obelysk if you don’t build for that win condition the deck ends up being weaker in my opinion. You can always play it is an “Oops I win, I drew 2 of these,” but outside of that it seems less useful in Obelysk than say Combo(my personal deck) or full blown Aggro(decks you’ll see other people post).

The real card you need for the deck is Khanuum-Ka, he’s the real hero for Obelysks and Dervishes. Outside of this card I recommend playing the LITD Package which is 3 Thunderhorns, 2 Lost in the Deserts, 2 Kinematic Projection as this is disruption you need to remove the hate off your Obelysks during the midgame.

Gust is slow and think of him as a 6 mana card not 5. Again I wouldn’t play him anymore the meta is very fast. He could be seen as a closer card, but think the slot could be used for other things, especially early game things.

Another great early game card is Wasteland Wraith which I’m enjoying the hell out of at the current moment.

Superior Mirage is great against Magmar and Aggro Vet(Wind Dervish) but outside of those matchups the card loses a lot of value. It’s a great closer card, but I’d only recommend playing 1 or 2 tops at the moment if you wanted to play it at all.

Portal Guardian is actually a good Idea I was thinking he’d generate enough threat to eat removal to keep my Obelysk and Khanuum-Ka safe.

Reassemble is a lot better if you play Trygon Obelysk and much weaker without it. Trygon Obelysk is also extremely powerful with Khanuum-Ka so there is that too. Just wanted to put Trygon Obelysk out there because noone seems to realize both of these together is pretty nuts.

Don’t forget that our Hero and Savior EMP will be played inforce due to all the BS on the ladder, which means you can instantly lose on 7 mana if you had some setup. That is why the deck will be weak for at least 1 more year or new cards added. The only way this deck works is if focus yourself on killing the opponent before 7 mana and that not really possible anymore with this archetype.

I don’t have a Decklist atm, but I have an idea. I will be exploring this idea this week on my stream to try and get this Archetype to work or die trying.

Thanks for the in depth reply!

The only reason I don’t run Trygon or Khanuum-ka is because I can’t yet afford them. I absolutely do plan to run them though. Essentially, those cards along with possibly Third Wish are my long term upgrade plans.

I can see why Wasteland Wraith would be useful. 4 drop that threatens mass wipe and will thus act as a removal sponge.

Get the LITD package first, then work towards Khanuum-Ka is my best advice for you chief.

Also Third Wish is pretty
monkas
right now.

Man, you really started the game just a week ago? Seems like you already know quite a lot about it, and your deck’s pretty solid too.

Well, welcome to the forum, and cool to have you. I think you’re going to enjoy it here.

Yea, more or less. I have a lot of experience with CCG’s and I made sure to do my research with decks, meta, essential crafts etc before jumping in

Update:

I made a few changes to the deck. Played a few games and Accumulonimbus has proven itself to be a great finisher. I’ll definitely be keeping 3 of those in the deck.

-2 Skyppy +2 Orbrider would be the change I’d make. I forgot about that card but when I looked at my Unlimited Obelysk Deck I was like oh ya he’s good.

Orbrider can bounce a Dervish to your hand for additional damage, can bounce a Dispelled Obelysk, Dunecaster, Primus Fist, Sandswirl Reader, and can also bounce Dustdrinker for additional damage.

I forgot to mention in the original post but if you are playing against Vetruvian players playing Dustdrinkers, Superior Mirage is insane against them.

Heres the Unlimited Deck for reference.

Nice, sounds versatile. Yea, the Skyppies were alright but I ended up just holding the artifact in hand both games I played it.

I’m going to try running 2x Star’s Fury instead of Gust. It’s bound to summon at least 2 dervishes if not more when played which makes it faster than Gust and generally also providing more burst.

Stars’ Fury good till about Rank 7 or so then people will start playing around it.

What I recommend is if you play for a long session and seem to get the same people swap Stars’ Fury with Kinematic Projection for a couple of matches. People will think you play both and then they start to play around neither. Then you can swap Stars back in.

But yes it’s a decent card since lots of new players and old players forgot about it myself included I died to it recently.

I will add that Brome is one of the more popular general and game plan is to flood the board with tons of minions and starfury can punish that decently at times. So the card is a little more playable than normal higher up you go now.
