Need suggestions for improvement - budget songhai

This is my first time posting a deck so hopefully that picture works. I am not very good at deck building so I just threw together a random deck with the cards I have and if there is any way to make it better (a lot of ways) I would love to hear them, I’m going for a mostly ranged deck if those are any good

This isn’t a deck, frankly speaking, but more of a bundle of random cards you pulled from orbs. Before doing anything else, I recommend you take out all the cards that are weak, or doesn’t fit in general Songhai archetypes, such as Katara, Wind Runner, Arrow Whistler, Four Winds Magi, Lux Ignis, Scarlet Viper, Khymera, Shadow Waltz, Artifact Defiler, and Heaven’s Eclipse.

Next, you’ll have to deal with cards like Lantern Fox and Mist Dragon Seal, which are both very good cards, but useable when you only have a single copy of each. In fact, you should refrain from running a single copy of any card, as it makes your deck cluttered and inconsistent.

Now when that’s out of your way, you’ll have to settle on a proper Songhai archetype. Unfortunately, Ranged Songhai isn’t a viable deck archetype and lacks support. I’m not suggesting that such a concept is entirely impossible, but if you would like to play competitively and have a fun time, you maybe would like to pursue other options. I’m no Songhai expert, but I personally would like to recommend a midrange build, which is among the most powerful and popular of Songhai decks.

Below is the deck I’m using right now. Instead of Ranged, it’s rather Backstab-oriented. By no means is it budget, but it’s fairly standard and strong, and should give you an idea of what midrange Songhai decks look like.

Yeah I have a long way to go before I can get those cards, I only have 5 of those. Thanks for the advice

You’re welcome! Please remember that you should start with crafting essential Songhai cards first instead of grinding with an entire deck in mind. I recommend first crafting Primus Fist, Assassination Protocol, Mist Dragon Seal, and Key Beholder. If you are looking for more expensive options, Thunderhorn, Scroll Bandit, Battle Paddo, Grandmaster Zendo, Juxtaposition, and Onyx Bear Seal are always nice too. It may seem you have a long way to go, but you’ll get spirits surprisingly fast if you work hard enough. If you’re a beginner, I would recommend opening Core Orbs, because those have the best drop rates and contain many staple cards that are always handy.

@alplod @phoenixtoasches @eurasianjay On that note, I’ll go ahead and call help to some of the really good Songhai players to see if they give you more professional advice.

You’re doing well, @halcyon98  After your elaborate advice there’s not much I can say.

Here the speech about general deck building principles was much more needed than specific Hai advice.

I have heard of this hidden meme: Mechs, Xenkai, buffed Bombard, Reva, seeker squad… Anyone brave enough to try it?

I might try that with all the spirit I got from the balance Patch, but please refrain from suggesting such decks in this thread. The OP came for advice on how to improve their deck and might not realise that the deck you speak of is not meant for competitve play.

Why? Pretty nice midrange deck, definitely diamond worth at least.

Oops, I thought you answered halcyon.

@alexx55
Yeah actually.
One guy was playing it. I beat him with wizardhorn tho.
He even almost got two mechazors and even got a xenkai out.
Got him with decispikes tho

Some quick and dirty changes and eventual upgrades I’d make based on your budget and starting build while best trying to stick to the theme or complimenting it. Eventually you could build toward a strong Spellhai variant as shown above while still being able to threaten and play many ranged/strong ranged minions via crypto/mentor and your various buffs.

Last change I’d probably make would be to eventually cut Mentor completely and finish your Juxtopositions for a more optimal Spellhai build.
