Matchmaking doesn't work

Which is fine to happen because people are able to beat higher division opponents as well as losing to them. If you weren’t able to gain/lose ranks when facing a different division opponents then you wouldn’t be moving at all and makes the match a waste of time for both people.

@ThanatosNoa you switched the category of the discussion, but is there something you could say more about bumping so often in the same player (in very high position in the ladder) and other s-rankers as diamond? Is it how it’s supposed to be?

A few things @atheistmantis - I’ve already been tagged here once by @nwardezir, and you’ve tagged me once yourself (please stop tagging me into a subject if I haven’t had a chance to reply and there is no new information - give me time to get to my office and read this stuff please!)

Please refrain from bumping your own post by writing multiple posts before someone has had a chance to reply: if you’re replying to yourself, that means your next message should have been amended to the first: this is forum etiquette to prevent stale/uninteresting topics from rising to the top due to the tenacity of sole user (you should have actually been receiving warnings about this already, I’m a bit worried that you’re ignoring them).

I’m moving this off into #Community-Support so that I can get CS (Edit: Our Customer Support, not to be confused with Community Support) eyes on this subject (if there is actually a problem, then this doesn’t belong in #General )

At this time I don’t have any other information for this subject.

I don’t know from where you got that I said it should be easy, but apparently i didn’t articulate myself properly.
There’s an unfair system that allows, like in my example, diamond players to lose hard gained positions in their rank by losing against s-rankers players.
So you think it’s fair that I play against an s-rank n°1 three times a day? djeban123 is there in s-rank because was the best, I played multiple times against the strongest players to lose and dramatically drop positions. Answer to that: how’s that fair?
These are not excuses, If I lose I lose, I’m not even ashamed of my screenshots, or to say that sometimes I play like shit, but my point is different so don’t turn the discussion on my skill level.

Apologies, I didn’t mean to bother with the multiple tag, I’ve been active in the forum only in recent times.

Roger that. I’m afraid I didn’t receive these warnings you’re talking about :open_mouth:, sorry about that I would have had a better conduct if I knew I was making a mistake. Should they appear as notifications these warnings?

Ok thank you very much!

I started all this because I found myself facing way too many s-rankers recently.
I wouldn’t have made a thread if this would be a very occasional thing but apart from the sole fact of playing against s-rankers (I’m in diamond) which can be fun, instructive, challenging and so on, my issue is that seems unfair to me than in such scenario I have to lose my positions in diamond because I lose to better players in a different division.

why do you care about you rank falling? if it is because you want to climb then playing strong players is a good thing for you, as you will learn what you are doing wrong and improve.

I care because the cause of the falling is not due to losing with other diamond players, as should be in my opinion, or gold/silver (which is more unlikely but I’d give that to them), but by playing against gamers which are obviously better than me since they are in higher division.
I like playing with s-rankers, and I agree that that’s a chance to improve, see what I do wrong and so on, but as already the game must make me face s-rankers, and recently very often, while in diamond, I just wish I wouldn’t be punished dropping positions, that’s all.

you didn’t answer my question, why do you care about your rank?

I understand what you are saying, but there isn’t really much that can be done other than having more people who play during the same time period as you, be in the same division. It seems unreasonable but there isn’t much that the game itself can do. I’m sure this has been suggested before (don’t remember who said it) in the forums where players get to choice which priority matchup they want, so you choose between having longer queue times but always play against the same division opponents or choose to have shorter queue times but risk being placed against opponents from other divisions. Something like that would be something you’ll would probably want but I don’t know if other people would be.

You literally just did what he told you not to lmao

You replied to him then gsvalhalla

Short answer:
I care because I want to achieve. I want to compete in my rank and try to be the best there and this is impeded by having to face players that don’t belong in my division.
(Extended version, for the sake of discussion):
By the way I play, the effort I put and the time I spend in Duelyst I feel like I belong to the diamond division and it’s what I try to achieve when a new season starts.
In recent months I tried to push it more, trying to be more competitive and managed to make it even to rank 1 of diamond.
Than I started meeting s-rankers, more than usual.
At first I was like “sure, as you get higher you encounter them, there’s not many players at this level so it’s just how it is”, but than I noticed that sometimes I’d meet as many S as diamond and I started dropping, a lot, which was frustrating.
So I though “is it alright that after making it this far I suddenly bump into the best players and I lose what I’ve built after many fair matches?”.
I allow myself to use an Italian football metaphor: if you’re in Serie B you play against others of Serie B and when you want to get to Serie A you have to win the others in Serie B, and not by facing Serie A teams while still in B.

Sorry can you articulate? Don’t mean to be rude but you just bumped into the discussion and what you just said makes little sense to me.

I know, there has been already topics about it, and little has changed. I’m an idealist, I think changes happen when ppl bring on a discussion, that’s what I’m trying.
This queue thing would be a reasonable idea imo.
I think the game can definitely do something to improve this situation, at least offering options like this one you mentioned.

I replied to other ppl posts what are you talking about?

I’m being as clear as I can

My replies are to their replies I’m missing you here :hushed:

the way I look at it is that rank is a reflection of how good you are, it is by no means a perfect one, but it is a reasonable aproximation. if you care about your rank then the first thing your should be doing is getting better, climbing will follow from that. as for whether games between ranks should offer the ability to climb, I think that they absolutely should, because if they do’t then there is little point having them at all, leading to excessively long queue times.
