Look at this awesome Duelyst demo from 2015!

So I was looking for something completely different when I stumbled across this ancient little Duelyst demo, posted in March of 2015! It has just over 100 views (xD) and it shows off the state of the game as it was at that point in time. And let me tell you, Duelyst has come quite the long way! Instead of 6 cards you draw 4 but you completely refill your hand each turn, Replace instead made you discard cards you didn’t want to keep, counterattacking didn’t exist, minions were way different and a búnch of other things that’ve been changed since. I thought you might also enjoy this little jaunt through memory lane so here you go, enjoy the video!

I actually like quite a few of the layout choices from the time!

PS: The narrator is Keith Lee, Co-founder of CPG.

The cropped version of the full body art actually makes a really nice portrait. I wonder if it’d make the older ones fit with the new generals in-game.

When I first heard about this they said songhai was extremely busted as “although you can’t do huge full hand combos you did get a new combo whenever you played one”

I actually really like the action bar here, particularly the little platform the cards seem to sit on. Looks great.

I like that hi-tech style it had. Explains a lot of design, especially in art, which seems weird in current fantasy style.

So weird that units don’t take damage when attacking. I think the fact that attacking the enemy general damages your minions is an underrated difference between duelyst and other ccgs.

What do you think vale hunter is stronger as: 1/2 or 2/1?

Obelisks had more name variety and lore opportunities…

wtf primus shieldmaster? 1/8 and weird helmet? so glad they changed that (the helmet)

counterattacks made such a difference

nightsorrow 4/1 rush? ha looks like tiger would’ve had another competitor

the general UI was pretty
