Is it normal to need to craft most of the cards you want to use?

In the last two days I bought a pack of 10 orbs and then another pack of 40. In all of those orbs I got virtually none of the “big name” epics and legendaries I see in deck lists. I got the Vetruvian healer which is cool. But I mean… 250 cards and pretty much all of the purples and oranges were not things that people play.

Is this normal? I wanted to support the company because I love the game, and also get a bit of a head start in filling in my collection. But it just feels bad to spend a bunch of money and get random stuff that’s mostly not going to help me build a winning deck.

Maybe it’s just luck? I bought my son a 10-pack and he pulled a Silithar Elder, Makantor Warbeast, 2xDioltas and a prismatic legendary of another card. I’m glad he was lucky but maybe there’s a net sum of luck per family.

Anyway this is not a complaint, I don’t regret the purchase, and it’s really not a big deal for me, plus now I have lots of commons and rares to make decks with.

I guess I am just asking: is it normal to get a bunch of stuff you don’t want and then have to break it down to make what you do? Because everyone tells me “don’t DE anything when you’re new” but I can’t make a good deck from random cards scattered across all factions, especially when I never pull big names.

Thanks.

I think it is pretty normal to get a ton of cards you dont want. The cards in this game have a ton of different types of effects, many of which are only used in spec8f8c types of decks. Even more so if you are only focusing on 1 or 2 classes. I think I salvage around 50% if the cards I get and have had to craft most of the epics that I use.

Yeah it’s normal to have to DE some cards that aren’t good (Some Legendaries aren’t very usefull) to make the cards that you want. You should craft enough to create a solid deck with at least one faction.

Thanks. I’m thinking maybe that I got all these cards without getting the “primo meta legendaries” simply because legendaries don’t drop that often and most cards aren’t meta?

Seriously, if that’s true it will make me feel a bit better.

That’s true. Most of the cards aren’t meta defining. And Legendaries are well… Legendaries. So they’re obviously pretty rare.

You shouldn’t focus on rarity for now. Some cards are must have even if they aren’t Legendaries (Like Ironcliffe guardians and Reapers of the Nine moons). You can create awesome decks with common and rare cards so focus on them for now
(And it’ll give you the sisters)

Also, if you post a list of the epics/legendaries you do own/want to use in whatever faction you want to play and neutral, people here can try to help you deckbuild with them!

if you have a specific playstyle or deck you are aiming to build, then yes.
but part of it is figuring out what synergizes well or getting creative with some of the more common cards.

on the other hand I cannot tell you how many times i disenchanted cards to craft a legendary only for a balance change to make the one i crafted bad and the one i disenchanted good (spelljammer and black locust).

at this point i dont even dare disenchant anything i dont already have 3 copies of.

Yes, that’s normal. I recommend you not to disenchant anything unless you’re 120% sure you’re not gonna use it in the future and disenchant only extras to slowly gather spirits to craft what you want.

Thanks for the replies. I think I was thrown off base with my expectations by my son’s amazing luck with a 10-pack (he pulled 4 top-tier legendaries and all in the same faction!)
