Internet Explorer is now required to install Duelyst? Not good

Running the new installer, I get the following:

“The version of Internet Explorer on thsis machine is not supported. Please upgrade and try again.”

I have done all I can to keep IE OFF of my machine, and now I need it to play Duelyst!? I’ve been playing since Kickstarter, and I can say this behaviour is simply not good. Can you please release a version of the installer that does not require IE? Like the one you had before, which worked perfectly fine. Why in the world was this changed?

I might stop playing until this is fixed, as I have no wish to install IE on my computer anytime soon.

Hm, I haven’t had this problem either.
I’ve been able to run Duelyst on Chrome and through Steam without issue.

I can understand the complaints but I think they’re wrong.
IE is blocked by my firewall and everything worked well. Can be that I have an (unexpected) hole in the firewall but I don’t think so.

Well, while your pbolem is not related to chrome or steam, those are two solutions for you as for now.

Just to be clear here, and to keep the replies on track, the problem is IE being required to install Duelyst using the installer, not me not being able to not play the game.

That’s what you’ve said, sounds like the only way to play for you it is the installer. Hope it is fixed soon.

I’ve checked my firewall settings and cannot confirm. IE has no internet access on my system.
Could be that it must be installed. But it doesn’t need internet access.

The same thing happens to me as well. Trying to run the standalone installer ends up in an error “The version of IE is not supported”. The problem is how many dependencies IE has on Windows (a lot). If any of them fails to install, it will probably still not work.

Here’s the reply I got from support:

“Duelyst requires the latest version of Internet Explorer installed onto your PC. This doesn’t mean you have to use it but you will need to update it in order to run it.”

I have the same problem and couldnt solve it.
So now I am playing on browser version of duelyst and that works for me.

I still dont think that IE reuirement is justifiable, but at least there is a way around it.

They would need to edit the packages used for their installer. It requires them to actually go through the motions of troubleshooting code that they borrowed, since this wasn’t a requirement previously. It’s hard but, if they care, they can untangle this

For anyone interested, Duelyst runs on Chrome, though the game pauses when the Duelyst tab isn’t focused.

And just want to clarify on this, it needs to be the main window on a monitor, you dont need to actively have it clicked on if you have multiple monitors. Also the “pause” isn’t a real pause, it will speed through the animations after you click back over so make sure to not leave it too long or you could miss your turn!

I just finished the tutorial on how to use the interface, but i’m not sure how to send reports or direct messages to other people or developers without starting a new topic. If you could provide some help please, let me know. I wanted to message you on a duelyst player who I have good reason to believe was cheating. I decided to contact you, as you can’t report players when you finish a game and return to the main screen, which i believe is something that needs to be worked on. Anyway, I do not want to reveal the players name as i think this message could be viewed by other people, and the player could get a lot of hate. If you find what I have to say worthwhile, then please contact me and I will give you the players name. I believe he was cheating because he was able to attack with a minion without celerity, move that same minion, and attack with it again. I checked the battle log and found nothing that could have allowed him to use that minion as if it had celerity. I hope this will get resolved soon and thank you for reading.
