I'm new. I don't have a lot of cards or dust. And I want to play Vetruvian. Am I nuts? :) Can anyone recommend a good build?

Hey all! So I’ve been playing about a week now. Tried to make a run at gold, didn’t happen. So now planning ahead for next month.

When I started the first faction I played up to 10 was Vetruvian. Then I got interested in Lyonar and Magmar. I was told these were good factions for early decks on a budget, and that advice is sound.

And I also started to hear rumblings about how Vetruvian was weak and so I just sort of abandoned it.

But I just had a Vetruvian quest and it reminded me that I enjoyed the style of play. I like the obelisks, and the generally defensive style of the game.

And while the card pulls I have gotten are not all great, many are in this faction. I have thus far in epics and legends here: Auroras Tears, Portal Guardian, Scion’s Third Wish (I know, not the best legendary :frowning: ), Stars’ Fury.

So… am I crazy to try to focus on Vetruvian? In addition to just liking the faction, I like the idea of doing something different that others aren’t. But I also don’t want to be stuck at rank 15 forever.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Vet is without a doubt the weakest faction in the game at the moment. Regardless, I doubt it will stay this way with the upcoming expansion set so I think it’s not too bad an idea to focus on Vet.

Aurora’s Tears is not played outside of Scioness Sajj in an artifact deck, which are generally expensive, so don’t use that. Portal Guardian isn’t played at all. Scion’s Third Wish is very rarely played. Star’s Fury is played occasionally but I think it costs too much outside of being a finisher.

It would help if you posted what your deck looks like at the moment. If you’re looking for what to craft/what to put in your deck, Vetruvian’s best non-basic faction cards are, from common to legendary: Siphon Energy, Bone Swarm, Starfire Scarab, Fireblaze Obelysk, Dominate Will, Inner Oasis, Rasha’s Curse and Aymara Healer.

Over the months, the developers have bounced Vetruvian from best faction to one of the worst over and over with balance changes. I personally think they should be a little more conservative with the balancing - people crying on forums is not representative of the majority of players.

The person above me mentioned the best cards in the faction, but another option for crafting I’d recommend is Zen’rui. If you make two or three of those, you can stick blindscorches in your deck as well, and with that combo, you can probably do pretty decent even if most of the rest of your cards are just the basic ones.

Take a look at Pancakes decklist : https://m.reddit.com/r/duelyst/comments/4vavd9/finally_reached_rank_4_with_budget_vetruvian_no/

You will however need Aymara healers if you’re going to play Vetruvian, the card is just that good.

I suggest this one: it’s important for a newplayer to familiarize with mechs soon (they are cheap and strong with a clear with condition that more often than not have no answer in the early-mid game). I suggest to ask friendship to Nowayitsj in-game and watch many of his matches to learn mech tactics

“A mech shell looking to take advantage of Vetruvian’s powerful spells that trades away the ability to give mech rush for early game board prescence.
Using spells that you wouldn’t normally find in most other Vetruvian lists can pay off tremendously in a mech shell. Cosmic Flesh and Inner Oasis are 2 cards that really shine when you’re running weaker mech minions”

if u don’t have aymara or zen’rui you can easily replace them with same curve minion or a lower curve

Thanks for the replies.

It sounds like I am pursuing the weakest faction (at least right now) without the right cards (why do my epic/legend draws always suck?!) and without nearly enough spirit to craft a viable deck.

Add to that being a newbie and I am probably setting myself up for frustration. Guess I will need to go another way and come back to Vetruvian when I have more resources and experience.

While that’s probably true, don’t give up so quickly. A lot of the regular posters here (myself included) are consistently hitting right into S and have sometimes strange ideas of what cards can be used to win and which can’t, forgetting that down below diamond, creativity and skill can be rewarded even without considering the current ‘best’ cards and strategies.

In my opinion, no one should have to change factions because they don’t ‘have the right cards yet’ if their goal is fun, and not simply maximizing their winning potential.

Here, I can hack together some playably decent vet decks from basics only:

And if you have even just a handful of common/rare cards (Siphon energy, Fireblaze Obelysk, Starfire Scarab, Dominate Will, Sojourner, Blaze Hound, Primus Shield Master, Dancing Blades, to name a few critical ones), you can start making key improvements. With a selection of rares and below, you will actually be able to do quite well in gold/siver.

@thanatos996 - Thanks much.

I keep playing Lyonar and Magmar and Vanar and coming back to Vetruvian. I love the control style and the way putting down a 2-mana obelisk causes opponents to completely change their gameplan.

I came up with this “hodgepodge” of a deck using what I happened to have “in the cupboard”. Any changes you’d suggest? Especially if I have put a fancy card in that doesn’t really fit and would be better replaced by a basic/common/rare.

Thanks.

EDIT: If everyone starts running Skorn I may have to pull out the pyros even though I love them.

Oops forgot the deck!

Have you by chance pulled any Syvrel The Exile?

If you enjoy the defensive style, then you may want to give my Syvrel The Exile + Obelysk tech with Bloodtear Alchemist, Maw, and Starfire Scarab a try. Syvrel The Exile lets you place Obelysks defensively and still make “bad” spawns good. If the opponent backs off defensively placed Obelysks early, you can pull their minions to your back line for the spawns in conjunction to Mawing them in the back without exposing your Maw bodies to attacks by their general. This lets you use your Bloodtear Alchemist and Maw bodies in the back to trade into minions, which can wreck their army in conjunction with Wind Dervishes getting hits in every turn. It can get out of hand really quickly for your opponent when you drop Starfire Scarab while they are struggling to get minions to stick against Syvrel & friends.

It’s a high-risk strategy in which if you don’t grab the advantage early you have little chance to pull off a comeback (also you pretty much auto-lose to Plasma Storm, but then again that’s just something you live with if you like Obelysks). However, when you are playing a weak faction, consistency just means you lose more consistently. Huehuehue.

P.S. For the secondary support to the core, I recommend Arcanyst, but it can go a number of ways depending on what you have available. Golems and Provokes can work just fine if you are short on Owls and Illusionists.

@Sorostaran - I actually do have one of those, oddly enough. But I don’t think I have some of the other stuff.

I might play around with it. But what I usually find with my obelysks is that they get killed or dispelled.

Everyone keeps telling me not to put resources into Vet in its current state so I will just play around with what I already have.

I don’t like the pyromancer very much. I feel they get killed too fast most of the time. A common Bloodtear alchemist kills them, plus you either trade with ranged units or they get your pyro for free.

I’d go with Dunecasters for buffing your iron dervishes late game.

I would also recommend this list, I use a similar one for Vetruvian quest and it is very strong. You can use dancing blades instead of Zen Ruis.
