I think the lack of chatter between opponents has had the opposite of the intended effect

What I would say is I would like the option to offer a chat session to my opponent in game and still be able to use the emotes there too

Attention Duelyst! Brooklyn Rage. Screw the rules, I have money. My voice gives me super strength.

Unless you mean normal quotes from the actual show, then I have nothing… In America.

Abridged or regular yugioh it’s all great as thrash talk.

I ATTACK THE MOOON

Ahem

Honestly, I would like the option to chat, if you could hide the chat in case the other player was being toxic. More potential for funny and interesting moments as far as I am concerned

But the sad part is people will still complain about chat toxicity when u can just as easy mute someone. They rather have a full conversation with said troll or toxic player instead of ignore and go about their business.

I would love to talk to a player after they do a sick play or to mid game them on what their next move is gonna be.

I’ve tried that and it crashed my game.

:frowning:

How about a “Good Game” option? Seems less sarcastic than “Well Played”.

Same here, accidentally hit the spectate button in a game and my game failed. :joy:

Good game could also be taken sarcastically.

Sure it could, but it seems less so. “Well Played” speaks more to your opponent’s performance as opposed to a general acknowledgement that the game was “good” or fun.

I don’t see how that’s different. It’s always going to be up for interpretation by the person reading it.

I guess from my experiences in online gaming, GG or Good Game has rarely felt sarcastic. “Well Played” right before your opponent wins feels sarcastic every time.

And for the record, this doesn’t bother me but I can understand OP’s frustration.

Is there a shorter way to say:

“Regardless of the outcome in this particular random matchmaking scenario which has pitted us, fellow Duelyst player, together in a ranked ladder, I have the upmost respect for your individual talents, which have (or soon will have) been performed to the best of your abilities. Please know that I will be a friend that will gladly help you any way I can if you decide to add me during or after this event, but please do not feel obligated to do so. I am glad we share this wonderful planet together and are able to have this game as an oulet for our creativity. You are a human being worthy of all rights that may be afforded to you. If we never cross paths again before our eventual return to the dust of the galaxy, I hope that you will always hold yourself in the highest esteem as you forge your destiny.”

I mean, everything is rude to someone, even silence. When the sun eventually explodes and there is no trace of earth left, and if we haven’t moved on to other habitable solar systems or space colonies, then we as humanity will have ceased to exist, and whether or not we worry about sarcasm and how we are perceived by other conscious entities will be a far distant blip in the timeline of…everything.

This is valentine’s day talking

Anyway i would like a chat only to have fun seeing my opponent’s nonsense and the possibility of save it

A lot of meme will come out that day

A bit of like when in online team games you look at your teammates screaming to each other because of stupid reasons

Just want to add that the reason using ‘well played’ as an electronic handshake doesn’t work well is that there is no time at the end of the game to do it. The ‘well played’ is usually called by your opponent when they have lethal in hand but not shown it yet so it feels similar to your opponent reaching out to shake your hand before they have even shown they can win.

Anyway, I think the duelyst community is as amazing as ever although the last two people who brought novel decks to the ladder and beat me weren’t interested in my words of encouragement :’(.

I think a public chat would make this game a lot more enjoyable. Of course it should be possible to disable it by default for people in fear of trolls.

I believe one of the main reasons I played the two other games I was addicted to for years each was their in-game chat. It just doesn’t feel so lonely in-game when you log in and enter a chat. And I don’t even involve myself that much in chats. Being able to watch some discussions while playing the game and leave a comment here and there is enough to enhance the game’s experience. People would stay, chat a bit, play some games, chat again, and so on.
Now I find myself logging into the game, do my quests and quickly log off again, although I find Duelyst is the best card game I ever played online. But, as others said, online means with people. Without chat, I don’t see people, my opponents could as well be very well made AIs. It’s a single player game this way.
Some say there is discord or something. It isn’t the same. It needs to be in-game. Minimizing the game to go to some chat or anything leads to frustration when playing games at the same time.

I believe the whole ‘no chat’ thing evolved from Diablo II, one of the games I was addicted to. After the chat there became unusable because of spambots, they decided to remove chats all along in their next games. Other companies followed that decision blindly.
Luckily, Duelyst is no trading card game, so there is no danger of bots appearing. Also, there are not as many people here as in a Blizzard game, so trolls can be handled.

Why are people watching streamers so much? It’s mainly because of the chat. People want company. If there were in-game chats, people would possibly play games themselves again!
I believe Duelyst would have a significantly higher playerbase in-game at all times if there was a chat.

This is a highly subjective opinion of course.

I feel fine with the state of chatter in-game. It’s not mandatory, but it is optional. It’s nice to have the option to chat with others, and if they don’t want to talk, you probably wouldn’t enjoy that person’s company anyway.

As far as GLHF (Green Leaves Hate Fire) and Well Played goes, I’ll say it and mean it (though I usually play later at night and I sometimes forget). I can’t tell how my opponent will interpret the gesture, so I won’t act any differently out of fear of negative interpretations. I might just end up striking a nice conversation with my opponent, which has happened before.

If someone goes out of their way to tell me not to talk to them, then I’ll let them be. Likewise, I’ll ignore someone if they start talking trash after I add them as an official “buddy” because that conversation would go from bad to worse.

Yeah, maybe a general chat would be nice. But since Duelyst isn’t exactly an MMO or even a social game, I doubt it’ll happen.
Maybe we’ll have “guild” chats when they’re implemented.
Well, they didn’t say guilds but social features sooo, I suppose guilds.

I find it kinda hard to go in and out of a game to talk someone on my friends list wish they would change that.

Well, the other card game I’ve been playing for years and still play (Kingdoms CCG) had general chat and a guild system with a seperate chat. That guild system together with the chat rooms kept me there for so long. So it would be a nice start to implement something like this into Duelyst. I’d love it. It would make the game much more long-living, I think.

Why isn’t Duelyst a social game? It was made as a reference to an actual board game if I’m informed correctly. The main reason to play board games is to come together with people to play.
Why not make use of the advantage of being online with possibly thousands of people by implementing a general chat?
