We have seen around half of the cards of the upcoming expansion, so we can start with speculations. In brief: based on the spoilers, how hyped are you for the new expansion?
I really like the idea of introducing new generals, though it seems some fine-tuning is needed to balance them
Unfortunately, the standard cards look underwhelming: I believe many of them won’t see play and I didn’t notice many cards with interesting effects
It seems the creative component of deck building has not been emphasized enough overall. I didn’t get the feeling of “how can I make this card work?” often enough
The Build mechanic is likely too slow to see competitive play. Changes to mechs are welcome, but also monodimensional
I was really hyped about Unearthed Prophecy, because there were tons of cards which intrigued me. This expansion sounds like a step back. Of course I will be very happy if I’m wrong on this!
This exp feels like a mixed bag in regards to my hype level. Yes, there are some cards that peak my interest, but there is still an equal (if not greater) number of issues that I can foresee.
Nevertheless I’m hopeful that CPG makes the right decisions to nerf shidai and ragnora in regards to this expansion.
As an English teacher, I can’t let that one slide. “Pique my interest” is the phrase.
Unfortunately, I don’t really feel that many build cards help add to the control element. Which can stop Songhai burn, for example? What will be able to stand against Magmar’s rush (given that Natural Selection cheaply removes the buildings)?
I do hope for more control, but I don’t have much confidence in the current cards being able to do much.
Maybe Prominence in Bromedic would be enough (lots of healing and provoke).
Meh, not very hyped is literally it. I doubt build will see any play outside of Gauntlet. The new mechs don’t look exactly thrilling either, barely viable if at all, i still like the change though since current Mechazor is like old Meltdown, viable, but entirely unfun. Less viable but more fun is the better way imo.
The other cards we’ve seen so far aren’t that interesting either, nothing so far where i really expect a big impact on the meta. Overall i think the expansion won’t change the meta too much but imo that’s also kind of a good thing because the current meta is awesome. So i am more or less indifferent regarding the new expansion.
not that much. They will add around 100 cards over a total of around 680 cards. Of those 100, 50 are deck-specific so if one isn’t interested in those deck the useful cards will be around 50. That means, on average, 3 new cards in a old deck?
I appreciate they do not use power creep to promote new set.
My option wasn’t really there: I’m pretty positive about the expansion so far (despite Dusting most cards revealed) but I’m not hyped. This one comes across like a break from the current insanity to me with another push for a slower metagame that might allow tóns of cards that are too slow now see play. So I’m not so much hyped for IV but hyped to see existing cards get more of a chance.
But how exactly does releasing slower cards mean older ones will see play when nothing is done to address the more powerful, faster ones.
Lowering the powerlevel of a set only works in Magic because they actually rotate their sets. So far I’m seeing frightfully little that supports the notion the players will play less of the actually and overwhelmingly so good decks other than getting bored of them or simply wanting to play something new, and that never lasts long anyway.
I’ll add a disclaimer that we still have a lot of cards to go but as is I’m not seeing it.
I am not very hype because current decks are very powerful and the new cards do not seem as powerful.
In a way, that’s cool… But I think the problem is from the two small expansions and some cards of the core set that are too oppressive.
Well I’m hoping that the use of Build Minions is going to punish tempo decks for not getting enough value. They’re so hard to remove and potentially high in value that currently common decks wouldn’t be able to compete with them to the point that we see slower decks coming around that rely on out-valuing the opponent more than is currently the case. I’m assuming CPG knows like we do that certain cards make this development nigh-impossible and will either include a patch with the release or have tailored counters for Flawless and Mantra.
I fully agree with you. If existing cards are more efficient than new cards, there is no reason to play the latter besides memes / fun. Of course, the ultimate goal of gaming is having fun, but it’s not fun to always lose either just because you want to run cards which just don’t work…
This is exactly how I feel about what we’ve seen so far. What gets me into TCGs and CCGs in the first place is the creativity allowed in deck building and creating/abusing synergies between cards. There are some that can be found with the new cards that have been spoiled so far, but it just doesn’t quite hit my radar.
I do not care about mechs in the slightest. It’s possible for mechs to become appealing in my eyes, but we’re going to need to see waaay more support for them before it comes close (think Arcanyst levels of support, including the fact they interact with non Arcanyst cards). The good news is that I fully support the changes brought to Mechaz0r! This does nothing for my hype levels, though.
The build mechanic seems nifty, but I can’t look away from the drawbacks. It’s incredibly weak to Magmar and a lot of powerful cards that are running rampant right now. I also worry especially much about what happens when you draw a build minion late in the game. It’s essentially a dead card if you’re behind and a win-more card if you’re ahead. There’s only two ways I’d be willing to make a deck with build minions.
There’s a particular build minion that really tickles my fancy. In this case, I’ll find a way to include it in a deck that revolves around it. It probably won’t be build-centric however. I kinda like the Vanar legendary, but I don’t like it enough to build a deck around it.
The meta shifts enough and build minions receive enough support/options to make it worthwhile. I don’t expect this to happen, especially considering this expansion is just over 100 cards and is trying to add a lot of different options to all the factions. I doubt any faction will get more than 3 build minions (and maybe 2-3 neutral ones). Once you filter out the garbage ones (which we know there will be), my interest will diminish even more.
There’s still more to be uncovered, I know. But when I look at the 32 cards that have been spoiled thus far, I really lose hope for the rest of it. I 2 or 3 of the revealed cards are interesting to me. Unless we find something meaty soon, I’m going to get depressed about this expansion. It pains me to say, but I feel like I’m akready regretting pre-ordering the orbs.
There needs to be an option between hyped and not very hyped. I’m excited but not that excited. It doesn’t seem as good as Unearthed Prophecy. I’ll withhold judgment until the full set is revealed.
To be honest with the mechs I’ve gotten turned off a bit.
Still definitely curious and I want it to come out, but, idk, I do not like mechanized minions in Duelyst in general (pistols etc.), and … it’s just… idk, I don’t care so much for it.
On the other hand: egg support, etc., but yeah, cannot deny getting a little turned off last week.
I was hyped from the day when the new Generals came out. Then I saw Ilena and thought WTF!?! But OK.
The first cards that where spoiled leaved me a bit unimpressed. They all appear a bit uninspired so far. But OK.
New machanic? I would like new mechanics but with Sentinel experience I’m sceptical. The new one seems slow, but I can live with it.
Then was Mech-Cards time. Really. I don’t want to see Mechs. This is not a Transformers-Game. I don’t mind having them as a funny sidekick or as a beginner-friendly way that enables grinding to Gold with an unexpensive deck. But I never ever want to see them being competetive in any way. (I know tournaments where won by them in the past - but it was mostly because of the surprise-factor, right?)
We still don’t know most of the cards. And I think nobody can tell how the Meta will shift. But the the thread isn’t about that but about the hype.
From what I’ve seen I’m not so hyped. This was different with UP for shure.
