Hold up its almost october no expansions?

Then it should be officially stated that the game is no longer in development (and/or remove real money purchases).

However, leaving things to rot behind a wall of silence is not only going to decrease the playerbase - which will reduce any money the game might still make - but will it will also tarnish a developer’s reputation. Project Aperion / Godfall might be the greatest game ever developed - but as is, I, at least, am going to be careful investing anything (time, money) in it when it is released.

What if the game still is in development? The development speed just could be really slow.

There’s a point where really slow development is too slow to count as development. Still, such a situation could be managed without angering (or disappointing or driving to apathy) the playerbase by good communication.

And while silence is a form of communication, it ain’t a good one, in my book.

@rhacker93 explained it nicely. Even the smallest pieces of information CPG hints at, the community blows it out of proportion. I can see why they are cautious.

I think the argument could be made that the userbase blows it precisely because its not clear communication. They hinted at “something”, so people expect expansion. If they just come out and say “balance patch”, then people wont expect an expansion, but a balance patch

Which is way having “good” (aka “clear”) communication is important.

Instead of “something is coming in Q4”, stating “In Q4, X will be coming” whether X is an expansion, a balance patch, a small number of previously unreleased cards or whatever will be better.
And if it becomes clear that the stated goal cannot be reached - communicate it to the playerbase, preferably with an explanation as to why.
“Hey folks - we are deeply sorry but due to technical difficulties implementing a new mechanic, the announced release of the new expansion will be pushed back to Q1.”

Ambiguous or unclear statements are open to (mis-)interpretation and being blown out of proportion - especially, if the speculations on the forums go unchecked… * cough * community management.

Yes, that would be for the best, but at this point I assume even CPG is unsure of what they can do. They probably want to communicate to the player base the best they can, but they can’t make promises either.

Well, they announced “something” for q4 (again i’m pretty sure it wont be an expansion). Ok when you made the announcement maybe you still wasnt sure on what you would deliver. But q4 is here. Tell us what’s going on.

New content is coming in Q4, not the start of Q4. It could be coming as late as December as far as I know.

And you would be totally fine if they’d deliver the new content the 31th of december, announcing it on the 30th?

Of course. They have kept their promise. If that’s the case, the announcement should come earlier, however.

Speaking of which, making new content update at Xmas is a good decision buisinesswise.

Anything that’s coming it’s already decided, it’s ok for them to release it whenever they like in q4, but announce what’s coming beforehand
