Duelyst Forums

Hold up its almost october no expansions?

I understand you’re annoyed but man I would much rather Duelyst get a balance patch every few months to shake things up a bit than just die? Like yeah it’s great if the game’s alive and getting regular expansions that’s great but they’re a small studio with a just announced large second title in the works so it makes sense that they’ll need to devote the vast majority of their resources into their new project.
That being said it’s also great to keep Duelyst around as there’s honestly still a lot that the community hasn’t really explored. I also understand being tired of Wanderer Ragnora being slightly overtuned but even some slight adjustments there’s plenty more exploration left to be done with the cards we’ve got.

What do you think will fit better or more neccesery?

A balance patch. But I’m still interested in new content as well.

So we are agree that balance patch is needed.

Now - if it is needed, why wait until q4 to throw it out? Or announcing for balance patch months before?

Assuming we’ll have new content (doubtfully) it need to be good enough to actually be worth the time for all the people waiting for months now.

Saying that there’s still alot to discover is ok when the meta is quite balanced (balance patch? ) but we’re not there yet.

Working on a new game is not an excuse to treat your community that paid for your game like shit - sorry.

Because maybe a balance patch takes some time? :thonk:

Lets be honest, they could have nerfed wanderer and rae in patch 1.96. It was already clear that those two need a tone down.
I agree with snow, an xpac is the bare minimum after such a long wait

You had months to fix it!
The had a big patch to fix it with all the things they broke.
Other games fix problems like that a week month after.

By other games, I’m sure you’re referring to games from big studios like Blizzard and such. Besides, it’s not like you’re sure won’t ever be a balance patch, so why get your panties in a twist? Can’t you wait a few more weeks?

I just had enough really.

My original arguement was and still is for such a long wait balance patch doesn’t even scratch the surface.

Maybe the game isn’t making enough money. It probably isn’t. If that’s the case, there’s little reason for CPG to continue caring about Duelyst. I understand that.

Than dont say “New content in q4”, instead “we’ll patch the game when necessary”. Words has a meaning

It just makes sense for a balance patch to come with the new content. Or it can come afterwards, if new cards become an issue. I’m honestly willing to wait as long as it takes. It’s not like we don’t have time.

So balance patch would be nice but I don’t think it’s actually all that necessary but would go a good ways towards livening the game up.

If there is new content we should not hold it to the standard of being worth waiting this long. We can hold it to the standard of the other sets but what they’ve said is that things will take longer because there are less resources. This isn’t to say that they need to be releasing a set and once again with fewer people even balance changes will take longer but I’m fine with that so long as they’re the correct changes.

I’m saying that there is plenty to discover not just post patch but also now. Unfortunately there aren’t many players with the experience to really delve into it but it’s out there.

Working on a new game is definitely an excuse to slow content. It’s a huge amount of effort and we aren’t paying for a living game we’re paying for content that has been put out. As for treating the community poorly the community management and promotion falls on Bandai so that doesn’t really fall under things CPG is required (or even really allowed) to be doing. I agree they’ve been a bit tight lipped but as I said before I understand that approach given how cutthroat the community gets the second that they say something.

I agree with most of the points you raised.

Regarding the exploration of the game and the lack of good players.
What do you call expirienced players? Players in s rank? What is the bar? I can point out some of the carziest vanar mains in this game (i’m one of them) that just trying to run new decks all day but wanderer/eggs/ziran doesn’t allow it - so the lists don’t see the light of day, and believe me when i say that i got a few killer ideas lying dorment just becuase i couldn’t pass through the wanderer door.

Working on a new game is great - but get the word out, what’s instore for us in the next year or so? Speak comunicate, do your job as a cm, push the devs to give knowledge (i do it a similer work in my career).
If you pay money for a company, if you invest into it - you are eligble for answers at any time until they say “sorry, we’re closing”.

The part that paid from the community got every right to be mad when things prove to be wrong or get less then deserved.
I do not believe a balance patch will be enough not for me or most of the community, i feel like the management do things wrong and they take the cm’s credibility with them, the result is - a broken community that fears the end.

When I say experienced players I mostly am referring to the players who you’re seeing doing well in competition. I’m aware that this is few and far between but it is one of the only places where you’ll see the players who really have a firm and in depth understanding of the game. It’s a high bar but Duelyst is a very complex game and even the majority of S rankers haven’t really grasped many of the intricacies that go into playing their own decks let alone those that go into building and brewing them. Like many of the people hitting S rank right now are still pretty fresh as far as Duelyst’s history goes and although there’s probably quite a few people who could get there given the time many of them just haven’t put that time in just yet.

As for pushing devs that’s on Bandai and I’m mostly just talking about CPG.

I’m not quite sure what you are referencing with the line about investing? Like if I purchase a product I don’t feel as though I’m entitled knowing what the future of that product will be. If I am investing in a company on a large scale that changes things but that is a much different relationship than what I believe you are talking about.

As for being a part of the paying community what was not delivered on the product? Were you unhappy with the quality of your cards you opening or are you unhappy with the current state of the meta? In terms of the meta it becomes a much more flimsy argument that they need to be catering to the people that paid. Yes you don’t like the meta and there are quite a few people burnt out on it. They’ll see the decline of those who are unhappy from the game but I don’t actually feel like the majority of the remaining community are nearly as on the edge of leaving as yourself. I honestly think that for many in the community a balance patch would do fine even if we would all like a new set more.

Then it should be officially stated that the game is no longer in development (and/or remove real money purchases).

However, leaving things to rot behind a wall of silence is not only going to decrease the playerbase - which will reduce any money the game might still make - but will it will also tarnish a developer’s reputation. Project Aperion / Godfall might be the greatest game ever developed - but as is, I, at least, am going to be careful investing anything (time, money) in it when it is released.

What if the game still is in development? The development speed just could be really slow.

There’s a point where really slow development is too slow to count as development. Still, such a situation could be managed without angering (or disappointing or driving to apathy) the playerbase by good communication.

And while silence is a form of communication, it ain’t a good one, in my book.

@rhacker93 explained it nicely. Even the smallest pieces of information CPG hints at, the community blows it out of proportion. I can see why they are cautious.
