Hipster Songhai (Need some Tips)

Sooo…posted this on the forum once…need some tips (make Mask of Shadows great again)

The idea:

Control songhai…a archetype wich never really was a thing but coud be. Songhai always had the tools for a control oriented playstyle but (i personally) never saw play. So slap some Deathstrikeseals onto your Jade Monk or a range unit and have fun…but what about the inclusion of the Mask of the Shadows?

Well it is the the perfect tool combined with Heartseeker and some position swap of Juxtaposition to remove some bigger threads (something Songhai always had poblems with)

Things that probably have to change:

-How to stay alive long enough: Welp in this meta is is the run and gun mechanic not really viable and you fin yourself running out of options or just get overun when you dont have an answer. And i am not sure if Emerald rejuvinator is good here.

-Eight Gates is good but not perfect: I love this card in Spell-hai but its just to situational to use most of the time but has the potential…

-Sometimes you overdraw and sometimes you cant draw anything: I am not sure why this problem occurs…probably because its a Combo deck (kind of) and so the drawing card just overdraw you and when you dumb your hand there is nothing to refil it (and i am not sure what to swap)

-You need the right draws: I added Jaxi for the sticky factor and the Deathstrike combo but i am not sure what to add that you coud spawn without thinking (most cards here are to situational)

So? Any ideas? I know this deck is supa whacky but hey…i actually had a 4 winstreak with this once in gold…so…it coud be something.

I don’t think that Reva is a good choice. She’s a long-range general it means that she likes to keep her distance and deal damage from range. Cyclone Mask and Bloodrage Mask would be better choices.

If you want to make Mask of Shadows work, you’ll need a minion-oriented deck with Kaleos and spells to support your minions like Mist dragon seal and Saberspine Seal.

Well i choose Reva because the heartseeker swap-combo wich help with creating distance but the real question (wich isnt clear in the thread) is what to cut for more minions becuas ethats what this deck needs.

But true i need to keep my enemy at bay…Hmm…i see what i can cut and replace.

I don’t think Reva is the right general for this deck, also 3x silhouette tracer is never good. Since you are playing no backstab minions I don’t think juxta is really necessary. For some size maybe add primus shield master, instead of rock pulverizer, and artifact hunter? Mist walking should be a 2 of at most and since mini-jaxi and heartseeker are the only ranged minions you can get out, maybe cutting one deathstrike seal for Jax would be better.

I see…well the juxta position is for the minion swap involving Heartseeker that i mentioned…it worked quite well but yea the other suggsetions sound good…

ok i tweak around and test…

Oh BTW deathstrike is very good on a Jade monk because his ping…most people dont know that…

Oh yeah LOL, nice point

I’m not great at songhai but here is some advice.

Similar to what Ister said, 3 x tracers and 3 mist walking is too much. Their main use is with mask of shadows. 6 cards for 2 masks. So if you don’t draw one of those 2 masks you are in trouble.

You have zero card draw (ignoring foxes psuedo draw). The amount of cheap cards like jux and ghost lightning is probably why you burn quickly. Maybe add heaven eclipse or L’Kian.
I’m guessing you overdraw because you hold a lot of situational cards like eight gate to combo. Not to sure how to solve that though.

Anyway why no phoenix fire in a songhai deck?

Control Songhai without Storm Kage? I am disappoint.

I also think you should add OBS, just in case the deathstrike seals are too slow. Since it’s control, you should generally be able to make a comeback without any minions on the board, and with only deathstrike seal as hard removal this task is difficult to perform.

Man hi im DRKLAW ihve been playing sonhai since beta and always had a control version of it right now im rank 3 with this deck but its a little expensive the control is about gainaing field precence with pandas

I see…i consider Dolitas and maybe inner focus…lets see…i ticker around today a bit…

I had 2…i got the spirit to make something else because i realized that the spells ,have to do damage’’ ;_; wich is very clunky and situanional…

UPDATE!

It works really well now ^^

The Changes:

-Removed Eight Gates because obviuos reasons (dont cry eight gates…you are in 2 other succesful decks from me ;_:wink:

-Removed Killing Edge because it didt provide the control i needed but just gor replaced with Primus Fist wich works way better

-Removed 1 Spiral because there are just 2 decks out there that benefit from 2 spirals

-Removed 1 Fox because other things where more important

-Removed all Tracers because Mistwalking just fits the role better and is way less clunky. And you want the teleport just for backsatbbing and getting aways for your Heartseeker so Mistwalking is just supirior (never thought i woud say that mistwalking is supirior)

-Removed Rocky (because i have other 2 drops now)

-Added a Heaven’s Ecplise and 3 Blazehounds for draw (i prefer Blazehound because the stats and the slight tempo increase)

-Added Healing Mystic and Primus to get a better curve/mor utility

-Added 2 Artifact Hunters for better control over my draws and i can mulligan the mask without fear of never drawing it again

-Added Dolitas because stickyness and it helps with setting up a backstab

Won 3/5 so it holds itself on the Diamond ladder but still needs tweaking…any ideas?

Not enough late game for a “control” deck. TBH I think Bloodtear is better than GL. In all, I think there are too many 3 drops for Hipster Controlhai. It seems almost… midrange and aggro. There’s not a single 5+ drop in this deck, and I was expecting perhaps a Dancing Blades.

A long time ago, I used the following list - and maybe parts of it will be useful to you?

I used Bloodtear instead of GL because sometimes I just wanted to ping something like a Mini-Jax but seemed like a waste to use GL. It’s still great against swarm, but better in other matchups. I find Deathstrike too situational since I can’t guarantee a heartseeker, and a Killing Edge is slightly better in the Cass match because it increases HP. OBS is my main removal because it doesn’t require a minion and synergy with Twin Strike. And then Kage for swag points. But, some weakness are that my general remains a boring 2/25 because I don’t include artifacts. I’m entirely reliant on minions, so if I lose the board it’s hard to come back. And less substantive early game means I lose the early board more.

My inclusion of Lightbender is for two reasons - Vaath and Cassyva are both popular, and silence is key to survive any kind of prolonged game with Vaath and dispelling Creeps is always good.

Very good points but i think the GL is more a thing of taste because the bloodtear provides a Body and the GL does not. I just find myself using GL more because i can whack something and kill it AND some other things that are hurt with GL.

Yea i shoud consider Adding Dancing Blades but Songhai just isnt the Faction that can support big minions to good (its posible but eh)

Yes its kinda tilting towrds Midrange and Aggro due to the aspect of mask and deathstrike-being the only reall ,control’’ parts.

Still i consider Dancing Blades and Lightbender…thanks for showing your list

But one thing that i have to say…Mask of the shadows inst that bad. I woud like to see some more decks with it
