Duelyst Forums

Greetings and a few comments

Hi all! I’m a player from Italy, I have been playing the game since the end of April and I really enjoy it. Actually, I enjoy the game so much that I already placed my pre-order for the upcoming expansion  I think CP is doing an excellent job and I like the idea of supporting a cool project like Duelyst.

Besides the introduction, a few comments and questions I’d like to share with the community:

  1. It seems the new expansion is pushing forward minions with high stats and powerful effects. In particular, battle pets may be dumb in their decisions, but we all know that it’s hard to remove big creatures from the board at the beginning of the game. Don’t you think this may introduce the risk of a playstyle where players are tempted to vomit minions on the board on curve, trying to get board control by sheer numbers? If low cost minions are too strong, I think this may be a real risk

  2. What do you think about netdecks? At least in silver rank, it seems netdecks are not an established reality. I really like to play against people designing their own decks, otherwise the feeling is just to play against bots all the time. I know that a rising popularity of the game may lead to more netdecks all around, but wouldn’t it be cool if the community helped into improving decks, rather than posting full-fledged decks for ā€œlazyā€ players? Do you think it would be healthy for the game to discourage the use of netdecks?

  3. It seems that around rank 12 or so the game starts to become much more difficult. I don’t play that much, since I mostly do dailies, but I never was able to hit the gold rank. I typically have a high winrate up to level 12 or so, then I start moving to around 50%, which significantly slows down my progress given my number of matches. Any general advice for these ranks? I mostly play Magmar

I know this is a sort of mixed bag of comments, but it’s my first topic and I had a few things to post  Enjoy the game, I hope to see a nice discussion.

Welcome to the forum

We will see , what you can be sure about is that the meta after shim’zar is going to be very pro active since it is the way the meta always develop when it get shaken , as we progress people will find answers and we will see more reactive strat.

Net deck is part of the game and nothing can be done to avoid it, people will net deck more and more in low leagues as the game gets more competitive. To compensate that hopefully CP will introduce a casual ladder so people can play with their fun decks.

You can add me if you want IGN: Thorrk

Hey nice to meet you,and welcome.
I do not mean to brag, but i have to drag my best friend’s butt all the way coaching him to gold every month and he is a Magmar main with a good deck but he either doesnt play enough or goes yolo (i always end up with a headache,so be patient).

Be vigilant, gather gold and spirit, and enjoy the chaos of September’s season.
By the looks of it,Magmar are becoming even more fierce, but with more decks to choose from,so if you really like them, make sure you have a way of trying them out in their full glory, and once the dust settles down,i am sure you will be able to climb to greater heights. Greetings from your neighbouring Debtland.

Also,if you want to add me my in game name is the same as my forum name.IN CAPS (for some reason)

Greetings, nice to see a fellow italian player here  I’ve been playing Duelyst since alpha, and while I’m not the best player, feel free to ask anything you might need.

Now to get to your questions:

  1. I think we need to wait and see, especially if we are talking specifically about battle pets. I’m still on the fence about them and want to see them in action, but the fact that your opponent can bait them out of combat with proper positioning might be a problem. I’m also under the impression that battle pets are better in the early game, but if you use them you won’t be able to properly contest mana tiles. (This might also have the counter-effect of making 3 drops more relevant, but it’s too early to tell).

  2. I personally don’t care about people netdecking; I gotta say that Duelyst has a very varied meta and people tend to experiment a lot, even in mid-high ranks. The rank where you are most likely to see netdecks is diamond.

  3. My advice might not be much, but I’ll simply say: find what works for you (and, well, what the rng of orbs gave you) and try to learn the deck as best as you can; it’s also extremely important to know which cards you should play around (Makantor Warbeast in Magmar, Ironcliffe in Lyonar, etc.); incidentally, if you are 100% sure on playing Magmar, try to get Warbeast and Taygete as soon as possible.
