Ghost Lynx Lyonar (S-Rank, Smashthings)

INTRODUCTION:

Sup, guys, Smash here. This is the a short guide for the list I used to climb to S this season (I entered S at #9 on the 8th).

THE LIST:

*should be 3x Ironcliff

STATS / MATCH-UPS:

These stats are my climb from gold to S. As we can clearly see, I played a lot of games vs Magmar, which is a great match-up for the deck.

Based on my experience I would say the following about the match-ups:

  • Bad Match-ups: Lyonar Mirror, Kara (*), Swarm Abyss, Mechs

  • Good Match-ups: Songhai, Magmar, Vetruvian

( * ) my stats are 6-3 vs Kara. However I feel that this match-up should be bad and so I think I just got lucky

CARD CHOICES

  • Ghost Lynx: “Why not repulosor Beast?”, I hear you ask. Well, I have three reasons for prefering Lynx over repulsor. Reason (1): Its a 2-drop. By running this card we have 10 turn one minions to play. To compound this, we have 5 powerful on curve 4 cost cards (regalia, Dioltas) so we really really do want to make sure we a have a minion turn one. Reason (2): Ghost Lynx, albeit at the cost of RNG, is able to do the same stuff a Repulosor can (and we have seen Repulosr sub for Matrydom in a number of Lyonar lists). Reason (3): If an Ironcliff gets lured/ repulosored away we have the option to pray to the RNG gods and Ghost Lynx our own dudes. In such cases, Ghost Lynx functions as a Magnetise, without the cost of having to put such a situational card in the deck.

  • Skorn: This deck started with Tempest, but I replaced it for Skorn and never looked back. In short; its nice to run more minions (as opposed to situational spells) and 2-damage AoE vs 1-damage AoE is mostly trivial in this meta.

  • Ruby: This is sweet card in Lyonar, It draws cards AND if left unharmed can become a win condition (without divine bond).

  • Aegis Barrier: A powerful card that can be critical in some match-ups; for one extra mana we can greatly increase the probability that an Ironcliff / Pandora / Ruby sticks to the board. Against Kara, we force them to dispell, Against Magmar we force them to metamoph and poor old Songhai basically has no awsners but for damage. Overall, I’d argue this is a very important meta card right now.

GAME VODS:

If you want to check out the deck in action then you should probably check out my stream.

Huh, I never even considered using Lynx as a pseudo magnetize. How often do you actually get to use it in such a way and how often does it actually work when you do?

I never got Pandora and never had a urche to make one…soooo…evil name guy…how does it play out? What coud i replace it with? I dont like hamsters but i dont smash any…do you?

So if it’s 3x Ironcliffe, what’s been removed for it?

Have you tried Decimate? It helps in the Kara, Swarm, and Mech matchups and has ok synergy with Ghost Lynx.

From which site are these stats and deck list?

The stats are actually from Duelysthub.

Magnetise Lynx is something I’ve done once so far.

If enemy target is in centre of board and you are at the edge you probably have about a 33% of sucess (sucess means you get to hit them that turn. If they are hiding in the opposite corner your chance is probably in the 10-20% range (depending on other minions on board and stuff).

Overall, I’d just say think of it a bit like a stormblade elix; in most cases the lynx will get you closer, but often not close enough to attack.

the hamster is named smash, its not a command!

But anyway, I’d say Pandora is solid in this list. If you wish to cut it I’d add some early game, such as a third Regalia.

As always with deck building, pointing out what cards fit into a deck is easy, working out what must be cut to make room is a lot harder.

In short; yes, decimate is good in the list… but is it better than the cards I am already runnig? I’m not sure it is.

Actually, lets do the math.

45 squares, but we must substract 2 for the generals.

If the enemy general is tucked away in the corner with no protecting minions there are 10 locations that can hit the general.

Since the minion always moves and if cannot occupy ghost lynx’s square thats another 2 squares out of the equasion. which means the odds are 10/41 (or 24.4%).

If we play a minion on our side of the board then that means there is 10/40 chance (25%). In fact, every individual minion (on a non-key square) alters the odds by about +0.5%.

In real games however, its likely that some of the key squares are blocked. If we assume two nearby minions then the odds getting in range are 8/39 (20.5%), being able to hit general will obviously depend on the formation.

By the gods I absolutely need to try that. Any priority target for Aegis?

Ironcliff > Pandora > Ruby > Dialots > Tombstone > Silverguard

i wonder why you chose circle over zen’rui and ruby as only card draw?

You run Ghost Lynx, did I need to read anything more?! NO, BUILDING THIS RIGHT NOW!

Envy would be proud of me ;(

Here is a new version; we ended up cutting Rifters in favour of Soj:
