Hey everybody,

It’s Thong Bonerstorm, long time Duelyst fan and constantly lurking forum ghost.
I think I’m taking a break for a while, and in case this place doesn’t exist anymore by the time I come back, I didn’t want to leave without ever saying goodbye.

I realized that I’m not having fun anymore.

I don’t know when that started, but I can’t escape the nagging feeling that I’m only playing this game and climbing to S every month out of some kind of spectral obligation. The decks I’ve made that climb at this point aren’t very fun to play, and I spend a lot of time just looking at my collection and hoping for something that’s both funny and competitive to rear its head.

In any case, I love this community, and even if you don’t know it because I comment so infrequently, I appreciate all of your jokes, interactions, and camaraderie. I had high hopes for Duelyst, and I still do, though they’re admittedly a bit dampened by the stagnation of the game and gradual erosion of the playerbase.

What I’m trying to say is ‘HELLO’, ‘GLHF’, ‘OOPS’, ‘WELL PLAYED’.

Well, as soon as I turn my back to walk away, CPG pulls something drastic. I’m back for now, look forward to whatever wacky combo decks I can put together now. See you on the ladder buddies.

See you dude, we all come, go, and come back again, I believe you’ll keep track with what’s going on in the game and community, and maybe the new skins will make you wanna play again, or later this year the new expansion maybe.
As @alexx55 pointed out, the unranked is a good place where to meme and play casually.

I have the feeling that this is the main problem atm. Trials are flashy, but sucked the fun out of the game. I just got to S with Titan Strategos and it was fun for me, but boy… this deck is no meme.

Most often the player who gets the tempo wins nowadays. Control is wheezing its last breaths and Combo has big problems to setup as most decks consist of very variable removal tools. Meme decks are located somewhere in the combo/ control sector… It has a really hard time.

But I totally understand @scrublordscrub feeling and I’d like to share my pov.

Completly stopped Ladder the day they pushed the Unranked mode.

Best decision ever : re-discovered pleasure to have fun, the way I want (decks), when I want (even on week one after reset, when Ladder is just a Slaughterhouse) and how I want (just concede if opponent deck is boring/netdeck/cancer, with no consequence).

And I can still do my quests (and get gold) and make more and more new stupid decks.

We have to keep in mind than this is a game, and one strong purpose of a game is also to have fun, not only to “win and crush your enemies” :wink:

You should give Unranked a real try, because once you’ve reached S, honestly, I don’t think there is a point to retry every month … the pride ? come one, anybody with a little time, patience, and a netdeck can do it. The loot ? … just keep your browser open on a Twitch channel while you sleep and you get more loot from Twitch drops than that extra bonus from being S at the end of season.

Join Unranked, try for a full season, it’s a nice breath, and you surely get something else in real life to be proud of … instead of those boring hours you waste and hurt yourself grinding the Ladder to reach S :slight_smile:

(exception is if your monthly goal is to reach top10 in S … that’s a real challenge/pleasure/pride that no time in Unranked can compete with …)

I can share a lot of the sentiment, and as much as I’d like to encourage casual queue, the problem largely lies in duelyst’s card selection atm. I hope the waves of cards will continue until we get the selection and diversity we want. Until then, we’ll all miss you @scrublordscrub.

Also, it goes without saying but you’re always welcome here on the forums regardless of whether or not you’re playing the game.

I understand you leaving and hope that you still decide to come around once in a while to the forums.

I personally can’t tell for others, but for me it feels like the game has been unfun for a while, there isn’t much diversity in the meta or rather not enough decks to play. For Magmar it is either burn or control/midrange with little variation in card choices, for Vanar it is ramp, for Songhai it is burn and midrange, for Vet it seems to be aggro.

Granted, I have not played in a long time, but from all the posts I have seen since I left, it does not seem like much has changed aside from some minor balancing. Maybe I am just mentally challenged and as a result am unable to appreciate the beauty of the game, but it feels stale and I will most likely not try playing until the next expansion. Hopefully it will be a lot more fun then.

I apologize if I offended/triggered anybody with this post, I was just trying to share my view on what the game looks like so far.

I understand how Thong feels. I’m also having a hard time finding a fun deck to play in Duelyst recently. Hardly played this month at all. Although I’ve never tried to get to S rank. It’ll come back around though when you think of an idea for a deck. Or when the next expansion comes out and the creative ideas for decks come up. Its the ebb and flow of card games. Hopefully, you’ll be back at some point and come up with something crazy to enjoy the game again.

Well @atheistmantis, you completely called it. I saw a post on the forum. Apparently CPG pushed a nutso patch because they felt my energy leaving. I’m excited to explore this.

@beelakor Yeah, I absolutely agree with your assessment. I’m hoping that now there’s no rotations, and that a few nerfs came in, things will be different. I’m gonna be trying wacky combo decks, and I’m hoping to have some crazy games

I think for the most part your assessment is correct @phoenixtoasches, but this patch is changing a lot! It might be a good time to come back with me! If it’s still bad I’ll probably just bail again, but this is an enormous patch

I’m possibly in the minority that appreciated the rotation thing, but I have to say that if this move from CPG will get players back (or more) I’ll be more than happy :slight_smile: .

Unfortunately, the disapperance of Unranked is like forcing meta/boredom in my throat. We’ll see, but I really don’t like that.
