Faction Concept: The Zhakaxor Cluster

The Zhakaxor Cluster

I got inspired by all the great faction concepts created by forum members and decided to make my own. Updates will be irregular, and I’m only done up until the Core Set for now, but finishing all the expansions is my eventual goal. Feedback and criticism are welcome. :sirpenti:

Visuals

The Zhakaxor Cluster are descendants of an ancient alien race. Therefore, they will have a very strange and distorted aesthetic, reminiscent of the beings depicted in Lovecraftian lore. They will also have a mechanical feel to their design, as they are hybrids of organic life and machine. Their color scheme will follow a strict black/white palette, with accents of brighter colors such as pink and teal.

Generals

Malthazar Highbrain

Bloodbound Spell: Mutant Invasion
The enemy General summons a 0/1 Parasite on a random nearby space.

Parasite
0 mana 0/1 token
Deal 1 damage to your General at the end of turn this is summoned.

Design Explanation

The Parasites live up to their name. They’re useless, deal damage to your General, and are difficult to get rid of. However, as giving a minion to the opponent can sometimes be disadvantageous, especially against Abyssian, many of the cards in this faction would be able to gain direct value from the Parasites your opponent controls.

Hyperia Mothership

Bloodbound Spell: Starflower
Teleport an enemy minion one space and turn its last space into a Vortex Hyperwrap.

Vortex Hyperwarp
Zhakaxor Tile
Friendly minions can move to this tile. Your General can summon minions on this tile.

Design Explanation

The Vortex Hyperwarp is essentially a teleportation gate in which friendly minions (but not the General) can move to, regardless of their current position. The General can also “airdrop” minions on the tile, again regardless of his/her position.

Core Mechanics

Bioleech

Bioleech is a faction a keyword ability. Similarly with Parasites, minions with the Bioleech keyword can only be summoned nearby enemy minions and generals, and are immediately treated as enemy minions once played. The card text of Bioleech minions will be written in the opponent’s point of view.

Vortex Hyperwarp

Explained above, Vortex Hyperwarp is a faction tile. Minions can move to a Vortex Hyperwarp tile, and the General can summon minions on a Vortex Hyperwarp tile.

Interspace

Interspace is a faction keyword ability. As an antithesis to Zeal, minions with Interspace will gain additional effects when not nearby the General.

I like the idea of a non-living being as the general, like a ship or a supercomputer, or a hive mind
(⊙⊙)(⊙⊙)(⊙⊙)

I want to see that in the game

the wording could be clearer, it took me 3 reads to realize you are summoning minions for the enemy general

the faction tile is what songhai wishes it would have
the design is very vetruvian meets mag-byssian
i get the faction is designed around airdrop the way lyonar is designed around provoke
it just feels very abyssian but parasite is just confusing

i really like the concept and idea, its very unique and smart, would love to see it in game. and more generals too cause alot of them are getting boring to play…

note: i read through it another time and find this faction’s card abit to overpowering expecially the “Satallite Operant” as a common, maybe it should be epic or legendary cause it pretty dang sweet as card to play with
“Star gazer beacon” is also op i mean like wth flying is just op in early game.
“Parasite Penumbra” should not be common, so either change the rarity to epic or 'deal damage to a random enemy minion equal to the number of parasite tokens they control.
thats all i have to say for now…

beautiful, love the idea. But if your playing parasite V. sacrifice mahev. that would be fun

oh, idea. You were talking about a mechanic where a minion gets buffs when its no near your general. but what if you had one call like bloodlust, and it gets buffs when its near the Enemy general. idk

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone!

Right! I named the Generals so that they have inverted initials as if they are male/female counterparts of each other.

I’ll try to make the wording clearer. It’s actually pretty straightforward: you play the minion nearby enemy minions and Generals, you use your own mana, and they are summoned as enemy minions.

So it feels like Songhai + Vetruvian + Magmar + Abyssian? I don’t get it. :thonk:

Nice ideas! I was definitely thinking about artifacts like that, but I don’t necessarily want them to deal damage, as Parasites themselves already deal damage. I can make the artifact either heal or buff friendly minions; I think I’m going to go with the latter.

Thanks!

I still think it should remain a common because this faction needs the 2 drop options. But you’re right, it does seem a little too strong. I think I’ll nerf the Airdrop buff to only last for a turn.

Alright, I can replace the Flying with another buff. The entire point of the card was to give Interspace minions the Flying so that they are free to reposition themselves at will, but I think we already have that kind of versatility with the Hyperwarp tiles.

I thought about that, but I don’t want it to damage other Parasites. As an alternative, I can make it deal damage to both Generals; how does that sound? I’m actually very unsure of how I will fix this minion, so the changes may take some time.

Thanks for the comment! Maehv is such a straightforward counter to Parasites, and I’m not really sure how I will solve this issue. I’m currently making cards that counter Abyssian specifically, but it’s not easy. :upside_down_face:

Nice idea! Maybe in future faction concepts. :sirpenti:

The xalic collective
9 mana spell
Summon a 4/5 xalic on any space for each 4 hp your general has.
Destroy your general.
Your general now has the collective health of each friendly xalic

That sounds amazng! Can I borrow the idea?

Yes.
The idea is an extremely hard to remove way of protecting your general, that also allows you to play it riskily to gain huge possible advantage.
At max, its a 9 mana summon 6 4/5s
This lets you either mega swarm, or play defensive.
This also combos with creature healing, and makes bastion op af for once.
This is also immune to emp

If Mal is the Parasite General, that one can be the alien virus General. I still have a long way to go until I can work on the Immortal Vanguard expansion though.

what i meant is that the tile is something songhai would want and the aesthetic design is basically vetruvian if vet was less people and more tentacled monster (i.e. something girthy like magmar and noodly like abyssian)

i guess u can, but its like back to magmar burn and tec spike
edit:whops wrong comment desu
