Expansion Spoilers Day 11: Grandmaster Nosh-Rak

Think it was time in MTG where the Standard format was dominated by one deck and its variants? @thorrk can you please confirm or deny this? or maybe I was thinking about something else…

Urza’s saga is an expansion that came on MTG in October 1998. It featured a lot of insanely broken cards like Yawgmoth’s Will and Tolarian academy ,the set had a very bad impact on Magic and required many bans.

Mirrodin was an other set of MTG released in September 2003 which almost destroyed Magic since it features an archetype that was totally OP also known as Afiinity. This deck dominated the game far too long after getting banned , the nice thing about this expansion was that most of the broken cards where colorless so it didn’t matter what color you were playing.

Them some dark times…:disappointed: dark times…I still can’t hear that word without remembering groaning and throwing my deck back in the box, muttering to myself and walking out of yet another comic shop/game store.

I don’t know why people think this card is amazing. IMHO this card is just good it’s too slow for any archetype and weak against dispell and removals. Maybe i think like that because i like to play with vanar and just 1-2 mana can make this card useless. Or if you play as Lyonar you can put your Provoke minion nearby of this and it cannot use his abilities. All in all i think this card will be played not too much.

Edit: I don’t know why but i didn’t see his real ability about double damage against general. So it’s better than i thought. But for use this ability on that turn you played you should have board

Zzzzzz. Vet gets another slow card.
Things Vet wants in expansion in order to become somewhat playable:
A late game card that isn’t slow
A good early-mid game card that doesn’t die to plasma storm
Long range removal

Even though we’ve seen very few of the cards I haven’t been impressed by what I have seen

This isn’t the card we need right now, but the card we deserve.

Wait no I got it…yep totally got

And so the cycle continues of CP printing insane Vetruvian cards that boost the faction to S-tier, then nerfing the faction to oblivion some way next patch

To all the people that think that this card is good, think again, it is too slow and again a reactive vetruvian card and we have plenty of those and we know how little impact they have on the game where cheap removal is almost half of the deck by now. This card is def not what Vet needed and it won’t push vet at all. This card is probably only good in Silver and Gold where people dont play as much answers to it.

Actually it isn’t slow at all, you can play this while u have obelysk on the board which vetruvian will almost always have and this can also be play alongside whispers of the sands (whatever its called) which will be additional damage which keep in mind is also doubled. Also keep in mind i’m not accounting for any other minion that you would have on the board at the time or any artifacts that would also be on the board. This card doesn’t even have to be active to be a great finisher because it doubles all damage to the enemy general. This card isnt op but it definitely is good pal

It is a win more card, u can win more easily if u have an established board, but it doesnt help u at all when u are on the defensive and vetruvian has a problems to finish games in srank.

Who said it was a defensive card?

Wait, how can it be a win-more card and reactive? The effect seems pretty proactive to me.

Edit: Oh hey Piepus, good to see you’re still around.

Look, if you have a good board, this card is terrifying. However, usually vetruvian is not able nowadays to dominate the opponents and your board wont be very good when you play this card. If it was, you are already winning without the card. Now in a normal boardstate where u have 0-2 minions, and u have 0-2 mana to spare this turn, his impact wont be huge in the turn he is played. Next turn he will be very good though. Problem is that there are soo many answers in every deck (ranged answers) that it will unlikely survive or be undispelled until your next turn. Then his body wont be that great without effect. Ironically, the card is extremely good vs vetruvian because its the only faction that has no ranged removal or silence. Therefore, the card underperforms for 7 mana, vet just does not have the power to stall the game well enough for this guy to shine.

That’s exactly the opposite, Vetruvian is great as establishing board state but terrible at dealing with things, and this is why this card is so good, it is not slow because it has immediate impact it will OTK you in a lot of situation. And as it was not enough, it’s an other answer or die card that you can put one the other side of the board super safely.

This card is insanely strong like everything in this set.

ping+punish minion)

And this is also good for control sajj because it will also double your pings with your bloodfire totems.(which will be easier to set up with zephyr)

I don’t know if this is old or new news but the grandmaster stacks with himself!

Having only one viable archetype aka obelysk vet which I really hate. In all.honesty you just kinda spam summon and swarm the.board and try to.burst from then onwards -.- It’s essentially spamming must -dispel/remove value generators until you die…
