Expansion Spoiler Day 10: Horror Burster

seems not bad,
i feel like this will be good in aggro cassiva or something like that.
with the new cards i feel like this will be a thing.

For people behind firewalls:

Horror Burster, Rare Abyssian Minion, 3 mana, 4/1. Dying wish: Transform a friendly minion into a 6/6 horror.

And now, the poll, cast your thoughts on the new card here!

If you missed any of the previous cards’ polls, they can all be found here!

it’s really heavy emotional wise to dispell a 1 hp minion but it’s effect is very terrifying in the right condition, that alone will make the enemy plays awkwardly around it.

now the card is indeed weak to ping, but if i drop that minion i would want it to get pinged because i won’t play it solo, it will be dropped when i have things on board, it’s effect might even tempt me to ping it myself with cassyva.

6/6 stat line is really good, the card can be used to heal dying minion that just attacks in a certain situation, it’s a slower mark of solitude but it can hit general. i mean, it’s crazy card, even if it’s effect never pop i don’t mind. a 3 mana that will instantly absorb removal, i’m game.

edit: i wonder about 1 thing though, minion that got transformed with ironcliffe heart can immediately attack if it hasn’t attacked but will this 6/6 horror be able to do that? because if it can, damn…

So yeah your pushing the wraithling theme more but a bit rng based

matrydom 3 confirmed dispel at 6 confirmed.

On the surface, this card seems pretty good given its cost-stat potential: 3 mana, 10/7 (more accurately, 9/6 given the ā€œsacrificeā€ of a 1/1 Wraithling). However, I just can’t seem to get around its initial statline and the fact that this can only be played with a board (as playing this P2, T1 is pure masochism). Even worse, where exactly does this fit? Does the risk (dispel/board-clear) outweigh the reward?

For Gauntlet, I simply have no clue. Honestly, I think I’ll wait to see it used against me a few times before I’d consider picking it above other rare offerings like Ooz or Windrunner.

Also, the more I think about it, isn’t this faintly similar to Wraithling Fury…? Ultimately, I’d be very curious to hear the design reasoning behind this card.

turning a distant kelaino aint so bad tho. first glace i was scared but overall this is a one or two of if the deck is lurking fear

It looks like there will be a ā€œcheat out a 6/6ā€ cycle in Duelyst.

  • Magmar has Mandrake
  • Vetruvian has Pantharian
  • Abyssian has the Horror that this summons

Let’s see. Wrathling Fury is 5/5 for 3.5 mana (let’s say 0.5 for wrathling through BBS). The Horror burster is 4/1+6/6-1/1=9/6 for the same 3.5 mana(only in the best case of wrathling transforming, which will probably not always happen).

However, It is more resistant to dispel.

If you get the Horror Burster itself dispelled, you still have 4/1 for 3 mana - which is obviously better than 1/1 for 3.5. It, of course, may die of ping, but also is able to trade.

6/6 horror is probably undispellable.

Seems better for me. Maybe I’m missing smth?

Just wait for some Magmar waifus. They will be top tier.

I love this card! Design, as well as ability. I think both generals can use this efficiently, especially since it’s a 3-drop, which are lacking in the faction. I have a lot of ideas for this minion! I guess it depends on what a ā€œHorrorā€ is. I’m terrified and excited!

I wish this had a less rng based ability then i would consider it a good minion for the late game and for the early game… if this minion said ā€œtransform the nearest friendly minion into a 6/6 horrorā€ then i would say it was really good but right now i can see this changing my shadowdancers and grandmasters. Still a good card though its just i can see the rng really makinh either the user or the opponent really tilted

didnt see it posted but this is the horror from the sounds of it

I share some of your skepticism but this is a very different card from wraithling fury. Wraithling fury is very one-dimensional, no wraithlings, no fury. But If you have wraithlings you can get instant value exactly where you want it and use it immediately with the downside of being dispellable.

This card wants a completely different kind of deck. I don’t think it is suited to lurking fear/dying wish style decks. The last thing you want in a lurking fear deck is for your cheap ramped dioltas/reaver or whatever to be turned into a vanilla 6/6 because of a ping and then cleanly removed, basically giving your opponent an extra silence (although, yes, the wraithlings spawned by reaper would be nice to transform).

I think traditional swarm might be able to get away with it thanks to gloomchaser/zyx bodies surviving skorn and reducing the odds of your dancers/priestesses getting transformed, but just how awkward it is depends on certain interactions. Like, if someone plays skorn vs your priestess + wraithlings + this thing does your priestess turn into a 6/6 and spawn no wraithlings to replace everything that was cleared on the board? That’d be some pretty awful anti-synergy. I think this card has more synergy with a more zoo-y swarm style including a lot of the extra body cards swarm likes and cards that have opening gambits but weak bodies, not in any existing meta decklist.

Very well designed, I think. But overall I’m just not sure it’s good enough to see play.

Note how the only unviable one is Pantheran.
