Vanar is one of my favourite faction but since i re-started to play duelyst i donât have a lot of userfull cards for new vanar decks. Ty for the lists
Local madman Ilena main here, although with a slightly different approach than OPâs to her.
Ilena, by definition, is a general that needs a good lot more of babysitting for sheâs the Sajj/Ragnora of Vanar. To play her properly, you have to get in character and think, feel and act as an overprotective angry granny shakinâ her olâ beatinâ schtikk, lad, and your minions are your babies/cats. You exist to clear mobs with face/spells while building a little army.
Iâll need to revise it, but if youâre afraid of not having much threat power with the usual gear she bears, iâll have at you ASAP a Vespyrquarian setup. I feel youâll be more comfortable having an Animus Plate and forcing the enemy into painful decisions (such as âdo i go face for DEMGZ or do i sacrifice my mobs to clear those 4/4 Maerids?â).
Uhm yeah yggdra is probably worth it, might give it a try. Still not convinced on drake, if they see you have the trial, if they attack with the general itâs because they kill your dowager in the same turnâŚno one wants to give free 4/4 with flying, especially if it counts as token for the trialâŚ
Most of the time i used it, even if the general was surrounded by gravity wells they preferred not to attack, which stalls the game and itâs ok but it wont proc the dowager
About thicket augur idk, it seem a low value minion. My list is far from being optimized but i can pull memetown more often than i thought even without the augur.
But then again, itâs like maybe a week iâm playing it, doing experiments, guess i have to try more stuff
People donât run removal, neither do they punch into the sentinel.

Iâm sorry but have you talked to any top player? They all say that removal isnât ran in most top decklists.
Hmm, cant imagine a deck that runs no removalâŚMaybe it is because I play only Abyss/Magmar and removal is just staple, eh, also, the punching part happens only vs abyss cuz they always lure it

How does the Howling artifact interact with Animus plate? Does it spawn, then buff, or otherwise
Doesnât interact, as the summon only occurs after the attack, not simultaneously (while the +2/+2 occurs mid-attack). Even so, the two together already can be easily become a 6+ Attack amp if youâre well set, and the other in-deck interactions covers up nicely.
Pretty much the 2 top decks donât run removal. Fault should drop off soon as Wanderer Rag is an overwhelming presence and even Fault doesnât use removal much. In this meta the only decks played should be Wanderer Rag and decks designed to beat it but some people are dumb.
Wanderer Rag and Fault Vet relly on tempo to win, you play removal when youâre losing but when youâre deck is ahead in tempo youâre not in that kind of position.
Although my list runs 12 removal options 9 are because they do other things and Fox shits on the Wanderer match-up, if I wanted removal I would use Prison but there isnât a need.
Iâm curious why we donât see Aspect of the Wyrm in many Nemeton lists. Itâs easier to proc than dowager. It doesnât seem to me to be the worst aspect token. Or is it just not necessary with all the other options?

Simple, garbage card.
Dowager (3 mana). Wyrm (4 mana + needs a minion).
Dowager > Wyrm on ease of proc trial.

Thinking about @icicleâs polarity deck I really donât understand the reason to play manaforger in the list with half of spells costing 0 mana. And Aethermaster has better synergy with Araras.
