Just saw this article and was wondering if it’s still friendly for f2p, why are certain expansions like Bloodbound and Ancient Bons seems to be against this ideal? I’m just curious, since i’m still relatively new to this whole game…
Duelyst still friendly for F2P?
Bloodbound and Ancient Bonds are designed in a way that feels great for people who have been playing for a while, but can feel inaccessible to new players. It’s honestly not that hard to make up the gold for them; Duelyst is still very generous. It’s just not immediate relief.
Quite glad to know that! I’ve been looking for a game that scratches my inbetween itch between HS and Fire Emblem. Duelyst fulfills that!

Watch the streamer hsuku. He mostly does gauntlet, but sometimes he does a series called from zero to hero where he makes a new account and attempts to make it to s-rank in one month with one general and without spending money.
Not sure how the bandai namco partnership has affected this though.
The small expansions might look like they are behind a paywall but given their size and orb prizes you can get the entire set for 3900 Gold. That’s like 1 month of doing you dailies. After that you have the entire set. If your just looking for certain cards then these sets are obviously worse but it’s really easy to get the whole thing even without money.
as the card pool increases with every expansion obviously the amount of time it will take a new player to build a collection increases. as for being able to be competitive though, experienced players have demonstrated it is possible to climb to s-rank on a new f2p account in less than 24 hours.
my advice on the ancient bonds and rise of the bloodborn orbs for a new player is ignore them. the cards from those orbs can’t be traded in for spirit to craft other cards so if you don’t get something you want it’s a waste of gold and you definitely don’t need anything from those sets to be competitive unless we’re talking tournament level.
When comparing Duelyst to a game like Hearthstone, you will find that the F2P-friendliness is measurably better in Duelyst. They give more gold for quests, it’s easier to earn gold & spirit, and the chances of getting rare/epic/legendaries in packs (Orbs) is better.
TLDR: Yes, Duelyst is extremely F2P-friendly.
All you have to do is learn gauntlet and go infinite
Also, someone please help me to go infinite.
