Duelyst Patch 1.93

would change that to “Vaath actively focusED positioning”…but has enough removal to ignore the board altogether.

exactly.

YES. This is the 10000000th time I’ve said it but- decks that do not play the board are inherently toxic to Duelyst.

Viable control strategies absolutly should be a thing, just as much as aggro and combo, and as long as their wincon uses the board and has counterplay, then no amount of removal is to much IMO, as long as the deck isn’t to powerful, which neither Vanar nor Magmar are now.

But I think we are starting to talk in circles, so let’s just leave it at we mostly agree with each other.

I think this is the first patch ever where I’m completely happy of all the implemented changes and I do understand the rationale behind them. Excellent job, CPG!

Now we, the Magmar players, can play our faction again without feeling guilty

I knew I should have disenchanted everything and crafted all Prismatic Serpentis when I had the chance!

Edit: this is sad, the balance patch was so good that I’ve run out of things to complain about. The nerf thread meta is literally dead right now.

Hm… A shame we will never be able to do that now :frowning:

Good patch, good job CPG!

Excellent! Just one pet peeve I cannot let go however, given you conceded that spellhai has a decently high skillcap. Positioning is massive in the deck. I cannot state this enough. I will also say the reason why certain combo decks (current spellhai, past spellhai, and flashlucidator of beta) are seen as unfairly uninteractive is that most players in this game only know how to play their own hand and not their opponents, as the need dropped dramatically with the advent of one draw and the subsequent glut of removal printed from shim’zar to the current meta. Ton of the mystique goes away once you know just what your opponent can do with a given amount of mana and knowing how he/she reacts to what you put on board.

That said, I will agree certain members of the archetype were definitely overtuned in the past (beta spellhai, october reva, etc.), most of which could have been solved with an initial nerf to BRM… how that thing made it out of beta never ceases to amaze me.

I know how to play around stuff quite well, and it’s precisely why I take such an issue with 8gates/Mantra and to a lesser extent, zendo. Because there isn’t jack I can do about it other then try to apply pressure and hope they don’t draw well and or screw up. Magmar and Vanar on the other hand, even in their prime, I could out skill and tech for. And since I play almost exclusively in top 50, the spellhai players I come across almost never make a mistake.

Currently it has little to do with powerlevel, although in the past that has also been a concern, and considering how many mantra players there were in the top ten before finality came out its still concerning, I really fear variations of the deck will come back.

I’m fine with all the current nerfs, but if spellhai comes back it needs some immiediate attention as spellhai meta is far worse then any control OR aggro meta.

But for now I will hope Magmar is still strong enough to scare the deck off, and try to just enjoy the new meta. Overall I am very happy with he current turn out, and if Magmar can’t do it anymore, I think lost in the sand will.

This patch looks pretty good, bugfixes galore and none of the nerfs actually killed a card completely.

Deceptibot is the one that got hit most of all tbh, I think I would still play him in my DeceptoVet deck but Songhai lost all interest in him since you can’t do P1T2 Protocolbot anymore.

On the contrary atleast for me I never drew the combo that early so having it delayed a turn isn’t too much of a problem.

Literally the best patch that I’ve been around to date:

-Winter theme items
-Allowing players to get Winter Saberspine Tiger (already had it myself, but it’s the time of giving )
-STARTER BUNDLES Some of the starter cards seem a bit bizarre to me, but it’s a start and I’m happy to see it offered to others.
-And the biggest one, balance changes. Not only balance changes, but ones that the community had issue with. I love the explanations, the clear intentions, the willingness to actually do it.
-Let’s also not forget about the large amount of effort and results in bug fixing.

I’ll have to consider buying things.

You guys (and girls) did a great job. I’m sure a lot of discussion went into all of these decisions, but you should be proud of everything you guys put out on this one. Great job again!

Lavaslasher nerf :heavy_check_mark:
Seraphim-flawless nerf✔️
Finality nerf✔️
Rebuke nerf✔️

Christmas comes earlier this year!! Thanks you cpg!

I just hope that the whining stops now after all those nerfs because it’s really getting on my nerves. Kinda doubt it though, Lavaslasher will still fuck you up in turn 2 if you play into it, Finality is still strong, Rebuke is still a perfect complement to Magmars removal tool and overall Magmar is probably still Tier 0. Nothing really changed here so i kinda expect the hatetrain to stay for quite a while longer.
