Yep duelyst is a game where you collect cards and build decks. But it is not a card game at all, it is a tactical, turn based, board game and that’s why I play it. This is a surprisingly difficult thing to find, there is an abundance of card games but basicly no online multiplayer tactical board games. Over the last couple years of really wanting this I either couldent find them at all or they were dead or really unhealthy. I guess recently there might be some competors but I am to invested at this point. So mostly I am just curious about others thoughts on it.
While yes it is a hybrid game with Elements of both a CCG and tactical game, I constantly see people always comparing it to popular card games like hearthstone, which is fair as there are quite a few similarities, but I just don’t understand why it’s even a disscussation of wether you would say choose one over the other. I tend to only have time for and a desire to play one of each type of game, and I sadly don’t have the time for physical games anymore. So I want a digital card game, a tactical turn based game, a hack and slash, and a moba.
What is the point of this? There isn’t much of one, I am not upset by it, it just always confuses me when I see this constantly. I love my card games, but tactical board games I think are just such a vastly different catagory they don’t compete. It’s like comparing Hearthstone to World of Warcraft gameplay because they have simmilar marketing and flavor.
Edit:
TLDR
Point A. Duelyst is not a CCG, while it has CCG elements it really is not one, so why does it just get classified as such and lumped in with other CCGs?
Point B. Why would you choose Duelyst over a card game or vice versa? When it’s more of a decision of wether you want to play a tactical game or a card game.
Point C. Competing with card games is hard, competing with online tactical board games is easy as there is very little competition. The board is what makes duelyst great, lets push it in that direction which should also help secure its niche market.
