My chess set is the London skyline, how about yours?
Duelyst Chess, a different kind of Duelyst match
Wait which chess piece has Provoke? Could I have played spells on my chess matches this whole time???
The queen has provoke…if you move her without cover into attackrange of something else the opponent will be forced to attack her(mentally).
So to play Duelyst like Chess I need to keep my provokes away and use them as attackers, got it
not to be annoying and i really like the idea of this thread here but just a ‘measly’ valehunter is a bloodtear alchemist every turn without removal. every turn. pyromancer is 2 damage and conditional aoe. you havent felt true terror if you havent lost to a t1 pyromancer in gauntlet because you didnt have removal. a komodo hunter in your face? wont happen if you have a pyromancer out that 5/6 will act as a 5/4 once the opponent has his turn again. obviously you dont just let it smack you. so once it reaches you its just a 5/2. let that go face and win board with the prongbok and hailstone you developed. you also have 2 1/3s for chipping and blocking, dont underestimate those. I really think that blast is one of the most op keywords in a removal-less format. Also the smart thing about recombobulus is playing with his rng and around it. he can only move a minion up, down or to the side. with blocking and using the walls you can easily boil it down to a certain outcome or a 50/50. also he is predictable in a sense where you can play around him if you suspect your opponent having it. but i can see how one wouldnt want to have the rng in here.
also again - sorry - but look at the last deck you proposed. if player one opens one pyromancer he won. player 2 can basically only remove it by getting prongbok close enough and it has to stick too. he could also stick a flamewreath but then he traded a 4drop into a 2drop. as player 2 EVERY play you can make against a p1 pyromancer will be answered easily. zyx - dead. maw - dead. even a double shiro puppydragon opening which would be the most resilient will have you one shiro getting destroyed plus 2 free face damage. you had to open double zyx and luck out to form a chain to maw the pyro away. and yes there is alchemist but then you might as well play with removal and if you do that whats the point of this.

man, got this long…
these games will also probably take a while so a lowcurve would just send both players to topdeckmode at one point right? i think a solid lategame should be included. Also take my decks here with a grain of salt as i havent tested this but pyromancer is still ridicolous xD
And as a side note: Starfire Scarab is worse.
pyromancer is worse in that he wins you the game if you open with it while big bug is worse in the sense that you dont need to open with him and just win if you drop him on curve. optionally you can open with fireman and curve into scarab to just win faster if youll have to go soon
how’bout some swarmking scarab tho? v:
i mean not even pyro answers pyro as the first pyro will just clean the second pyro. blast doesnt counterattack.
Read all your posts, and this is basically why I’m leaving ranged and blast out of Duelyst Chess decks. Too powerful.
Also you’re right that these matches tend to run longer, which is why I picked Starhorn in the first place, because with Starhorn versus Starhorn, neither player ever really runs out of cards. In a non-Starhorn deck I think you’d want to both include a mix of low-cost and high-cost cards, and include plenty of draw power, like my Ciphyron Chess deck which has five cards that cycle and twenty four-to-six-drops. I had more cycle cards in there originally, but I dropped a bunch of them to stuff in more cool-but-never-used minions.
How about including cards that draw for both players such as blaze hound? That’s both a decent body and a cycling card.
I’m personally of the opinion that ranged should be included. Blast may be a bit too powerful, but I feel that ranged can be fine. What you will want to do, is maybe to include a few windstoppers. That way it get’s even more tactical, and positioning becomes of key importance in this. (still pleading idk about crossbones)
Like this deck:
I just realized that syvrel can become really cool pseudo removal in place of a card like repulsor beast
I wouldn’t want to run crossbones and wind stoppers just to counter ranged minions, honestly. The only ranged minions I’d consider letting into Duelyst Chess would be heartseekers, vale hunters and Syvrel (since they all have only one attack), and only in decks with absolutely no way to buff them.
