Most Vet decks prefer Sojourner or Spelljammer over this card, but it might find it’s place in a Arcanyst deck after the next expansion, or in an aggressive deck with a really low lurve. It isn’t the best draw spell in the game but it isn’t the worst one either.
Divine Spark, Garbage?
Divine Spark is the only Vet card that allows them to draw more than 1 card from the deck. Its certainly not an interesting card and it doesn’t really contribute to a style of play. If anything its a cycle card and for me, sometimes that is enough for what I want. Granted its not as impactful as Spikes or Oath and not as flavorsome, but sometimes a good card just doesn’t have to do something flashy.
Honestly, I think it’s really good- but that’s because Vet decks want to condense themselves, so tools like L’Kian fall short.
The issue of comparison here is quite simple- Vetruvian isn’t Lyonar or Magmar- and while people trumpet complaints about Trinity Oath (which I think is fine), I have a hunch that we’re a couple months off of Tec Spike straight up breaking the game.
What I’m getting at, is that buffing Spark would be pointless, nerfing Oath would be pointless. Vet needs fundamentally better cards elsewhere- but Spark itself is just a fine utility. If it were a Vanar or Songhai card, the forums would be calling for CPG’s heads on a pike (this hyperbole is relatively similar to the level used when discussing balance shifts.)
I think divine spark by itself isn’t that useful, but manaforger can make this card much more usable. It is usually only useful when you have spare mana and a bad hand or if you are at 9 mana and really want your Aymaras.
I haven’t been able to play much recently, but I found it to be an utterly fantastic way to build up plays when you start hitting 7 mana. Usually, it’s followed up with a bit of board presence, and it gives you better options for disruption/further development. The problem therein lies with the inefficiencies of cards like Entropic Decay and Circle of Dessication. Where Divination here, would be an absolute monster if it were played alongside cards that actually reliably did something.
Could you imagine how much the dynamic of a card like this would shift if Decimate were faction-shifted into Vet?
Wouldn’t mind that, but Vet doesn’t exactly focus on keeping ally Minions close to the general, just having spells that revolve around the general.
At least that’s what CPG says
Sure, robbing Lyonar of Decimate souds nice as semi-ranged removal, but the problem is that the anti-synergy with obelisks is huge. Only Sajj Would use it as a cheaper CoD and even then she would be better off using the Ankh+Falcius.
Buuut that’s still a lot of dead stuff
Trying to figure out the anti-synergy here. Obelysks don’t move, you never move your general and obelysks away from one another- and Stones just makes it easier to make it work. Seems kindof moot, since the best positions for Obelysks tend to be within 2 spaces reach of most of the board.
Maybe have it kill everything next to the opposing general
Edit: but then that would powercreep onto Bone Swarm
Reva: You will never get close enough to my heartseekers and ki-beholders to use entropic decay!
Sajj: (uses Decimate)
Reva: My army… nooo.
Honestly from a deck building perspective, divine spark has been the most interesting card Vetruvian got out of the expansion in my opinion. Sure it does not double damage to the enemy general, but it thins your deck & increases your hand size instead of simply replacing itself. Which was lacking in faction as an option.
The only problem with this card is that the other cards in this expansion are above the power curve of previous cards. Just a bit silly that a card that Vetruvian got was a NERFED version of old Scion’s Second Wish instead of say a buffed version of say draw 2 for 1 mana…
Considering a Ragnaros -that can attack was released in the neutral slot- isn’t the strongest card in the expansion just shows the amount of power creep the latest expansion had.
If Magmar got Divine Spark in Denizens, it would have helped Control Magmar a great deal.
I wasn’t looking for anti-synergy, I just remembered a match where I lost because Argeon wiped all of my obelisks with it. Thanks for pointing out how it would synergise with Stones to spears though, I guess you are right, It wouldn’t be that bad for Vet to have.
Trinity oath is reasonable, 4 mana is often a whole turn worth of mana i often would prefer lkian to trinity oath.
Thectronic spikes i stopped playing long ago, the effect is symetric and unless you have decimus it just feela like there is no good time to play it. It’s just waste of mana and make yourself more vulnerable to opponent’s burst. When combined with decimus it is worth playing, since i don’t like decimus i just play lkian instead in my magmar and surprisingly i am satisfied with her performance.
Divine spark as mentioned has good synergy with arcanists, my friend used it to get 2 cards for 2 mana in his sajj deck, it seems surprisingly strong. Regardless It is still better than the songhai 5 mana draw 3 spells card. No matter how you look at it. With the new expansion at hand i feel like it would get more relevant synergy and become better overall soon enough.
I would like ranged removal in vetruvian but their tempo is too strong as it is, it would have to be tuned down if ranged removal was to return to vetruvians. I guess the devs would rather shift the meta with newer cards in the expansion than rework/nerf the older cards at this point to balance things out.
It’s filler in my deck a guaranteed replace when I don’t need it and 2 cards when I do. Since with each expansion we will be running more and more efficient cards having something that thins out ur deck is good
Prefer it over Spelljammer/L’kian in Sajj decks anyday
personally i think if divine spark gave your general +1 attack for the turn (in addition to the draw) would turn it into an awesome vet flavored card
2 cards for 3 mana is definitely too slow and not enough.
For 2 mana, I can also draw 2 cards AND buff 2 minions with +1/+1
It’s fine in Gauntlet and basically unplayable anywhere else. There are better options for constructed.
Eh, I know it’ll never happen but I wish the card said:
“Your general has flying this turn, draw two cards”
It would be a godsend for Vetruvian, giving them a means of taking prime positioning for a turn or just give them a chance to escape getting trapped.
