Deathmark interaction

Deathmark’s card text says that the enemy minion is destroyed “when it is attacked.” I played it on a minion and hit it with my general and the minion counterattacked before it was destroyed. This is not how I would expect it to work. (By contrast, mirages from superior mirage, which “disappear when attacked,” do not get to counterattack.)

Is this the way the card always works, or was my interaction bugged? (I was wielding spectral blade and playing in frostfire mode, which might have caused this.)

If Deathmark shouldn’t be letting said minions counterattack, I reckon they should make the card’s rmtext read. “If that Minion is attacked, destroy it instantly.” So as to make the card in line with similar effects like Vanar’s Stun Gauntlet.

I thought the card said ‘after it is attacked’ instead of ‘when it is attacked.’

It seemed pretty clear to me since other cards say ‘when.’

TBH, I expected the card work same way as a the gauntlet. But then I tested it and discovered™ that it’s trash.

does it kill forcefielded minions?

yes, but it pings and breaks the forcefield anyway

yeah, the card is unplayable.
I really dont understand the design thought behind it

I think it’s intended to support swarm, because you can trigger the effect using a low-value minion. It’s cheaper than Ritual Banishing, but it comes with a more conditional effect

I would argue the same, only it is pretty clearly worse than Punish. The only exception is force field, Deathmark does not care about force field…unless the force field minion is already damaged.

It can be also used as an expensive ping if needed. I don’t think it’s so horrible, but I didn’t test it enough

Yeah, unplayable, at least until Abyssian losses punish (when Cass will be unplayable).

why is that people are always saying “when X General loses Y card they won’t be playable”?
You can’t know what’s coming. Ragnard is my favorite right now, he’s losing Morin-Khur. Though Morin-Khur gives him the most barbaric burst in the game, I don’t think he will be dead because he loses it.

Cass could get a 4 mana spell that reads “destroy all damaged enemy minions” or a 3 drop 3/4 with the same or similar text. I’m sure Cass will be fine.

While I agree with you in principal, Ragnora has so many tools for badassery that the loss of Morin-Khur just takes away the most OP burst option.

Cass losing Punish would be very significant but as you say she will most likely get a viable replacement.
