Daily Card Discussion - March 8th - Breath of the Unborn

I hope everyone’s day will, or has, gone well. The card of the day that I’ve selected often brings other spells from other factions in mind. Additionally, I think it might be fun to give a clue into what tomorrow’s card of the day will be; so I’ll be putting that in a spoiler (feel free to guess what it might be ). BUT, going back to the card of March 8th, I present Breath of the Unborn!

To start off the discussion, here are some questions of consideration:

  1. What other spells come to your mind when you see this card?

  2. How do you think this card compares to the card(s) you said in question 1?

  3. What are some of the most thematic spells that come to mind?

  4. What do you think are some of the least thematic spells?

  1. This is basically Tempest and Fountain of Youth put together minus Tempest dealing two damage to generals and allied minions
  2. It’s better than Fountain, worse than Tempest
3)Ironically Fountain really is a good thematic card for Vetruvian as it suggests the Imperium has ways of keeping everyone healthy, but in practice the card’s bad because Vetruvian isn’t about stat sticks but rather… whatever they’re about this week.
  3. Least thematic would be Corpse Combustion simply based on it’s effect. That spell doesn’t sound like a revival spell of any kind, it sounds like removal to be honest.
  1. Tempest, Frostburn, Ghost Lightning for AoE damage spells (Plasma Storm don’t count as it’s not in form of damage), and Fountain of Youth(memey card)
  2. The cost is too high for 2 damage, which most minions survive in, while the real effect sees few uses as you need a decent board to utilitize with, something Cass won’t really have much on earlier stages, while Lilithe don’t have much uses either because swarm don’t need heals. Also, there are a lot of removals Abyssian already have, and necrotic sphere which can be very powerful. It may see use in 1-offs to tech against swarm decks, but I personally prefer grasp for that.
  3. Sky Burial/Decimate, Mist Walking/Inner Focus, Star’s fury, Ritual Banishing, Natural Selection, Avalanche.
  4. Draining Wave, Phoenix Fire (though it’s the bread and butter), Bone Swarm, Wraithling Fury, Dance of Dreams, Lightning Blitz.

The extremely rare cases where this is played against you, you are practically guaranteed to throw your hands up in disgust.

!!“Who the hell runs Breath of the Unborn?”!!

That out of the way, I think the card is slightly stronger than most people think, partially because nobody will ever play around it. Lilith doesn’t like Skorn, but it is decent in Cassyva. People will defnitely play around 1 dmg pings(BBS, Sphere of Darkness) but they are never ready for 2 AoE.

And as I posted already, when you play Cassy, it’s most of the time also a clean shot for 3 with BBS

tempest, frostburn

it has different use, it does 1 damage less than frostburn, and costs 1 less, but that 1 damage is the difference between a minion living or diying so probably would want to get the other part of the spell to get good value - the healing - if you build a healthy deck with something like dioltas and vorpal reavers, etc. it could be not bad.
tempest has only 1 effect that is symetrical but costs 2 less mana, i guess tempest is easier to use effeciently, but damages own minions and doesn’t heal. they just have different uses i guess. this is probably more about healing than the clear.

?

?

They’re about keeping weak minions healthy (tbh more swarmy, but less synergy for swarm than abyssian). which makes no sense to me, but i’ll go with it
