Daily Card Discussion - February 24th -

Swinging fromone side of the long neck, to the other, I wanted to bring around a low mana card. The Card of the Day for February 24th is:

To start off the discussion, here are some questions of consideration:

Why doesn’t this see more play?
What type of Lyonar deck might it be more suited for?
What faction or generals might this prove most effective against?

It doesn’t see play because your throwing away a precious resource( cards) to do something of very little impact.

Even though it costs 0, it doesn’t do enough to justify a place over other artifacts and if other artifacts can’t find a place into a deck then Sunstone Bracers has pretty much no chance. Plus artifacts in general don’t seem to be in favour from what I’ve come across this month, probably down to things like Bloodtear currently being common.

Maybe something super aggressive where every point of damage matters with Spelljammers to refill the hand. But even then you’ll rather have minions to buff attack or to heal depending which general you choose. To be honest I just don’t see a deck for it other than being something for newer players to use and then quickly getting replaced for something more useful.

None really. It might be most useful against factions with a lot of 2 drop 3 health minions like Lyonar since you can use your health and save your own minion for positioning purposes. To get a strong start in the early game.

It’s like a 1-mana minion. May be useful, but isn’t always that helpful, so it’s just gonna make yourself run out of steam faster.
It’s good against 3-health minions, so putting a Bracer on early helps a lot. But the opposing general or 4+ health minions could just trade hit with you and break the Bracer.

Sunstone Bracers doesn’t see much play because like most artifacts, it’s easy to remove. It also tends to have a small impact outside of the early game when having 3 Attack instead of 2 is huge. And honestly, if I want 1 more damage, I’ll play Bloodtear Alchemist. It has more reach, leaves a body, and is only 1 mana more expensive.

If there is a Lyonar deck running this card, they better have draw, because with a zero-cost card in-hand, they’ll probably empty their hand pretty quickly. I guess it can be useful if you need to use all of your mana to play a big minion, which allows your general to maybe take care of a 2-drop, but that’s really pushing its effectiveness.

I think this card is best against opposing Lyonar since the faction relies on minions sticking to the board. Being able to clear 2-drops efficiently early on might prove useful. (Why is Lyonar so weak to its own cards?)

I sometimes use this to clear two-drops in my Tempo Lyonar list. Then again, it’s only useful in one instance, and is a waste of card space.

Whenever you want to put a card in your deck, you have to always ask yourself.

Do I want to topdeck this?

Topdecking a Sojourner or a Lantern Fox is pretty abysmal, but I will never not put them in all of my Songhai lists.

Topdecking a minion is rarely bad since, absolute worst case scenario, it’s a body that can block and (generally) do damage.

Much different story for spells and artifacts.
