Am I only one who think cryogenesis is too good? This card has great synergy with current Vanar deck and even if you don’t use vespyr minion 3 mana for 4 damage is not a bad choice at all. I’ve seen some decklist which use no vespyr but run 3 cryogenesis. I think if it is changed to 3 damage or changed to 4 cost it will be okay.
Cryogenesis okay?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone discuss the possibility of running cryo without vespyrs, let alone actually do it. Unless you’re talking about this happening in silver, I call BS. 4 damage for 3 mana is quite sub par, and even if it wasn’t, there isn’t a scenario where you wouldn’t want to run at least a single vespyr for the synergy. Anyway, one of vanar’s weaknesses is it’s card draw, and that stands correct to this day despite cryo existing. Tells you enough about how good the card is. More often than not, you’re just forced to run it because there’s no better alternatives. I play lots of mechs where draw is of big value and even I don’t run it because it’s too slow and clunky.
Point is, card is in a good spot right now as a card draw that isn’t auto include. Nerfing it would just mean shitting on vanar as a whole.
It is because you get tempo loss on top because of not developing a minion for that 3 Mana. It has a reason this card often is played against 2-Drops early game: It’s basically card cycle AND damage. I don’t think it would be played just because of the damage.
Cryogenesis is a very powerful card and at or near the top of Vanar’s 3-Mana power curve, and that’s fine by me. Every faction has their especially strong cards.
It is actually pretty bad, but…
… it is indeed a strong card, especially since it can be used as a tutor (card that searches your deck for other specific card). However, I wouldn’t call it OP.
Cyro isn’t to strong it is full package of removal together
1 mana fox
2 mana chrome cold
2 mana Hailstone prison
3 mana Cyro
Vanar doesnt have OP cards but they have OP package of removal. With arrival of Skorn plus Aspect of Mountain the aoe for them aren’t that bad anymore. Cyro is fine,The culprit is Chromatic cold,Fox has downside it leaves a 3/3 ,Hailstone has a downside it can give back a creature.Cold has no downside and Vanar already has good removal at the spot.
Then again maybe I am just salty Magmar player and still mad at them for giving them our spell.
Fox ought to be 2 mana, cold ought to be 3 mana, Cryo ought to be 4 mana. So long as the spells stay undercosted, the devs are going to have trouble giving Vanar any more powerful cards without making it overpowered.
Fox isn’t even strong at 1 mana. Chroma is costed perfectly and so is cryo. None of those spells are undercosted and they’re definitely not limiting the design space for that faction. They are just cookie-cutter spells that do their jobs well and that’s not a bad thing. Every faction has those.
I think it is a strong card. You can compare it to a tiger. It can’t be buffed, but it draws you a card and can target any space. Lowering the damage or changing the cost would make it too weak.
