I thought you said you have Shroud + Alcuined with the plan to wipe his board. Besides, quite ahead of him as far as health goes, assuming he’s healed already.
Concealing Shroud
Wait, what? Who’s asking for a Vanar nerf? I don’t think anyone even thinks the Meltdown burn decks are even good. They require enormous luck, and display a level of ridiculous inconsistency. Enlighten me
Yeah playing with Random is fun and unstable of course
Meltdown is still strong when it comes to 8 mana turn (could be 6 or 7 for those who play 3x Crystal Wisp), when ppl already tried very hard to clear your other minions, so 9 dmg to your face and a 7/7 body.
He healed like 2 points of health, besides, health doesn’t really matter that much to evaluate the board state, esp. since we both are out of lethal range. That is the entire point, i was able to come back from a lost game just by stalling and clearing board, while he could do nothing but to overextend, which is why i think shrud might be broken. And as i said ik that i was somewhat lucky with my shroud draws, but to get the skorn + feeble combo at 7 mana isn’t really lucky, you just need to replace for it and will eventually get it until then.
IT IS DISPELLABLE!!!
Seriously, I just recently found! That really surprised me as I had lethal and otherwise would have died the next turn so I decided to try to use Empheral Shroud as a desperate last attempt and it worked!
Anyway the card is not op or anything, it can be annoying but the mechanic existed before in the form of Falcius for example (which I still hate btw, so much value…).
It reminds me of Freeze Mage from HS which works in a similar manner, making herself invincible for a turn in order to stall a while longer to draw the last bits of burst. Yea, sure annoying, not the funnest, but can be dealt with.
In HS you had to play around the secret while in Duelyst you can simply dispel it or position yourself/ heal timely to dodge lethal.
While comparing Shroud to Falcius seems to make sense at first glance, upon examining them you will notice some rather large differences between them;
-
Shroud keeps the general invincible even on the enemy’s turn (very good),
-
It can be recycled with loremaster (somewhat better)
-
Falcius gives + 2 atk to your general for your turn only (Falcius’s only advantage over Shroud)
Shroud’s only “drawback” over falcius is that it doesn’t grant 2 attack for one turn, which can be easily played around with artifacts, especially since they can’t be destroyed as long as you keep Shroud up.
Altogether while I would agree with nerfing it slightly, I don’t know if it will happen, so I guess the only thing to do for now is add more dispelling units to my deck…
You forgot to consider the 3/3 body that accompanies falcius
Sunstone Templar? I think? And Sun Bloom.
Shroud and to an extent Corona feels like yet another failed attempt by the Developers to buffer control playstyles since cards this cheap will just end up seeing more play in more aggressive variants, which has already taken place.
One of my biggest issues with shroud is that it prevents pinging artifacts. With so few artifacts being present in the average game, teching in rust crawlers is useless most of the time, but shroud gives vanar the ability to have a 5 damage general for the entirety of their turn and yours.
Exactly, this is why imho shroud should not prevent damage the turn its played but only during opponents turn. That way at least if you want to Attack, artifacts takes damage. Right now White asp+consecutive shrouds is ridicoulus!
It seems like I did overlook the fact that Falcius leaves a body behind
. That must be because, at least in my experience, his body isn’t that helpful. Shroud may not leave a body behind, but I still think it is stronger than Falcius because it works better with cheap Vanar artifacts then expensive Vetruvian artifacts, not to mention that spells can be used in more combos than a weak body with opening gambit.
Shroud is way better then falcius because it prevents damage during your turn AND opponents turn. Imho its too much for a 2 mana spell
Any change we see will probably involve a mana cost increase. I could see it as a 3 mana spell. Still all shroud does is point out the value of dispel.
The card may be a little over the top, but is nothing egregious.
Its corona that should be reworked. Casting it if you’re the playing first is almost equivalent to gaining an extra turn. Its so easy for the opponent Varian to develop wailing overdrive and you’d just be slowing losing for the rest of the game.
A turn 1 play is bad you don’t develop a board tour opponent will have at least one minion on you. And if your trying to get them to stay on their side you have 2 more turns to fully get on their side. Their are tons of pings making artifacts that much harder to keep. If your going face or like to rush damage on a general well play a bit differently then. It’s cheese to think you can just hit people face with out some form of punishment. Vanar needed those 2 cards very much you guys will learn to adapt is all.
Yeah, I can’t even count how many times my Obliterate/Spec Rev setups have been thwarted by Shrouding. Usually ends with me losing the game since they get two turns of free face damage plus whatever cheese they pull out of their decks.
Tethermancer might but it does have the text dispel any minions that attacks this one (note minions)
but dispelling generals has only recently become something that actually does anything - so it probably doesn’t work but it may be changed to, I can’t remember the last time I saw a tethermancer played so it is in need of a buff.
Edit: noone really asked for this, but It miiight work, however unlikely
No tethermancer 100% doesn’t work, since its text is fairly accurate. It dispells minions. Dispelling Generals has been a thing since the introduction of BBS with Vaath, and maybe even before that, it just wasnt very relevant.
That’s more to ur poor foresight and planning. Obliterate is a turn 8 play for you so between now and they played a shroud which they should have you would know there were 2 more in his deck. Heck I don’t see how you don’t have your degenerate Grandmaster as she gives you a constant stream of high value minions. Vanar has a lot of low hp minions so get to no creep with ur bbs early shouldn’t be hard.
