Card of the Day April 5, 2017 - Mark of Solitude

Hey guys, I have a little treat for y’all today! What effect have you dispelled and completely regretted doing so?.. It’s the mark of solitude!

Here’re you’re questions:
1.) Do you see this more as a deal with problematic enemy minions card or a buff card?
2.) How does this fare as a removal card?
3.) What do you think about the transform ability in general?

**BONUS.) What funny interactions or accidental combos have you had with this card?

MVP of my Vanar deck rn. Favorite lethals have been Mark on a Minijax, next turn I Chromatic Cold my own minion, Hearth sister it in for 5 damage. Turn 1 Circulus + Mark is really tough to deal with, and a Mark on a Minijax is annoying for your opponent because it just continually clears their board.

Should never be a removal card unless paired with pony or you have no other options

A very interesting Vanar card! yea that’s possible!

  1. Back in the days of Jax(i), I used to use it a lot as a buff spell. But, if it was needed, it could be used as removal - much like Thumping Wave.
  2. Pretty bad, unless you have out of hand lethal next turn or something. Especially if we consider this in Vanar. But it can be used if you have nothing else (which you should).
  3. It’s cool, but should be limited IMO. Cards like Aspect of the Fox and Blood of Air are borderline OP because of the transform effect. I like it better when the transform applies on a friendly minion, like Aspect of the Mountains.

Bonus: This is a pretty funny one. It was in January I think, I was playing Gauntlet with Faie, and I had Mark in the deck. I got matched vs Hsuku, and I was like “shiiitt im gonna lose”. Anyways, I had a Shiro on board that I used Marked on. Next turn, I Boundless Courage it for (almost) lethal… and then I rememeber I can’t attack the general. I felt so stupid!

Just wanted to let you know that aspect of the mountains is applicable on both friendly and enemy minions (only damages enemy minions though).

Also, back when I was pretty new to Duelyst, I would keep on accidentally dispelling an enemy minion with mark of solitude on it, leaving me with a 5/5 minion on board :joy:. I’d also attack it thinking that it would t counter-attack…I was wrong

Oh I know, but its usually used on friendly minions, that’s why I said that

If only Aspect of the Fox didn’t exist (in its current form), this card would probably see quite a bit of play!

Probably not. Don’t forget that altough the minion becomes 5/5, it still retains the abilities!
Or did you mean it as a buff? Since you can use Fox on walls and such?

He mean that if AotFox is obliterated from the face of Earth, Vanar will need to choose between:

Hailstone Prison
Mark of Solitude
Altered Beast
Iceshatter Gauntlet+Stuff
Repulsor Beast

to deal with a single bigdude for low mana, though they will probably just use enfeeble for that so assume enfeeble is obliterated as well, Mark of Solitude may be played due to it’s flexibility in it being able to both buff your, say, mini-jax and as an answer to singularbigdudeinyourface.

Its actually an ok buff card, but a terrible removal card.
It should only be used as a removal in desperate situations, and even then that is undesirable.

On the ladder I’ve only seen a few Mecha-Faies use it (to make Sword and cannon really annoying). In the gauntlet its also rarely used, although if it does show up it will probably be used on something like a P1T1 Planar scout or a Vale hunter.

In the past I’ve had great successes with mark in gauntlet, because it allows you to buff innocious-looking things into veritable threats requiring removal. It’s worth a pick, especially if you already have stuff like vale hunters, snow chasers, jaxis, even something like the 2 mana 1/4 provoke.

The thing is the big dude you use Mark on is now a 5/5, which is still a large body to deal with. And besides, you dont really see many big minions without effects/abilities, do you? The only things you would want to use Mark on would be stuff like Dragonbone Golem, a 10/10 with no ability - which you will almost certainly not face in the Diamond/S-Rank ladder. Mark is useless on minions like Meltdown, Pandora, Vorpal Reaver, Klaxon, Elder… I could go on.
