Card of the Day April 16, 2017 -Flaming Stampede (Happy Easter!)

Happy Easter folks!

Here’re your questions:
1.) is this card more of a board clear or damage card?
2.) Even with all the egg support from A.B and RotB, does it still suck?
3.) Why would CP design a card in such a fashion?

BONUS: How’s your Easter Sunday been? When was the last time you went Easter egg hunting (and how was it)?

I suppose this card was intended for burn decks, to buy some time while dealing some face damage.

The egg immunity thing is probably there for texture, because “deal 5 damage to everything” is terribly dull.

Board clear, but you would be pretty desperate to use 8 mana on a card that is not certain to kill everything.

Short answer, yes. Basically it costs too much mana for 5 damage AoE in faction that can do burst damage for more with less mana. Also has better removals in the form of Natural selection, Plasma Storm and Egg Morph which are all cheaper. Plus Warbeast costs 2 mana less and can do 4 AoE damage which can be ramped out earlier (if needed).

Flavour. Its suppose to be like a late game AoE that helps out the rebirth archetype. But in reality it is basically unplayable outside of just wanting to use the card because you own a copy. Costs too much mana, rarity is too high for people who would want to test/use it, the AoE 5 damage isn’t that impressive for 8 mana, plus you’ll be killing your own minions or putting into egg form which makes it easier to your opponent to kill them.

Pretty normal, don’t really celebrate it, although it does mean there could be Easter eggs for sale tomorrow which is a nice way to get chocolate on the cheap with maybe a free mug. Also don’t think I’ve ever been Easter egg hunting.

I have never ever seen this card played, in ladder or in gauntlet. Which is a shame, because it has one of the best animations in the game - https://twitter.com/PlayDuelyst/status/806210130228445185

1.) At 8 mana, 5 damage isn’t going to clear the important parts of the board. I guess it does damage, though, so let’s say it’s a damage card.

2.) If your minions are eggs during your turn, they’re going to be eggs during your opponent’s turn unless you force them to hatch. Since you can’t force them to hatch with 1 mana, playing this card means you’re going to be a glorified rooster when your opponent responds. Maybe you’ll have a Juggernaut out, but if that’s the case then who really cares about playing something like this?

3.) I don’t know what the idea was behind this card. I could speculate, but I don’t have enough to go on to make it worthwhile.

B.) Visited Grandma and caught up with some family. Can’t really ask for a better time than that~

edit: That animation is legendary, though.

  1. Um, I don’t think this card is good at doing either of those things. Plasma storm and even Metamorphosis are better board clears, while Elucidator does 5 damage to the enemy and 4 to you for half the price of Flaming stampede.

  2. Yes it still sucks. It is worse then Circle of desiccation which already doesn’t see play and is basically Tempests big brother except he costs way to much to see any play. There is really no reason to use it unless you’re doing it for memes.

  3. I’m not sure but it looks like you are supposed to Kamikaze all of your rebirth minions and then use this to wipe out the rest of the board. That seams ok until you notice that by 8 mana most enemies have more than 5 health and chances are you would be better off doing something else with that much mana.

TBH, with an animation like that the effect should’ve been ‘deal five damage to everything BUT your eggs, hatch all friendly eggs’

Still pretty costly for an aoe staff of moron khur, but at least it would DO something

y no hatch eg

  1. This card isn’t much of either, but I’d call it more of a board clear.

  2. Egg support is nowhere near enough right now to make this garbo card anywhere near playable. Hatching eggs needs to be cheaper (3 Mana Wild Inceptor wen) and Veteran Silithar needs to be stronger before that can happen. Even if an Egg deck did work, Morin Khur + Valknu or Chrysalis Burst would be a better late game play.

  3. CPG likes symmetry a lot when approaching the faction cards. In Shimzar, when this piece of crap was introduced, they were adding a bunch of 8 mana spells for shits and giggles. However, Magmar already had cool big spells (Metamorphosis and Fractal Replication) and SOMEHOW CPG couldn’t come up with anything for the lizard bois. So, like Joseki and Silverbeak, this card is just pack filler (WHICH WE REALLY DON’T NEED IN DUELYST, THIS ISN’T FARTSTONE GDDMMT).
