Card of the Day April 15, 2017 - Maw

Hint for tomorrow’s card coming soon)
[/quote] I know I said this, but it’s already the next day so…:skull_crossbones:.
Anyways, today’s card is actually a neutral!

Maw is a 2/2 for 2 that does 2 damage to any minion (wonderful!). Here’re your questions:
1.) How does this fare versus the other 2 drops?
2.) Which Faction does this work best with (and which general)?
3.) What is your opinion about opening gambits effecting minions?

  1. It does not fare very well against other two-drops because of the lacking stats and ability that generally can’t be used T1, but may still have a place in some decks as a way of helping with early tempo, swarm control and even removal. No two drop survives Maw’s OG + a General hit, it can help pushing through some thresholds and while its stats are far from ideal, it can trade with 1/4s and eat small minions. Oh, and it kills Tiger.

  2. I am unsure, but its place lies in unusual decks, like Sajj, very controlly Vaath lists and maybe some unusual Vanar decks (it has some enfeeble synergy and takes a Kinectic Surge relatively well… just don’t quote me on that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ). I have only tested it with Spinecleaver Sajj pre-AB so far, but it helped keeping a wraithling-free early game, and also helped against the occasional Gravity Well or 5-6 HP minion.

3)I like the OGs on most 2 drops, they are generally low key yet flexible or always desirable, helping make your choice of T1 card still matter later on. Other than 2 drops, I must say I really like Sunset Paragon :unicorn: :bomb: and Dancing Blades :dancer: :crossed_swords:. Both are flexible yet not too explosive, feel relatively fair and use the board. And Blades is cheap and can fit in most decks, making it very new-player friendly

1.) It’s certainly useful, but it’s not something you’re going to play around. It can be most useful in decks that focus on dumping the hand.

2.) Magmar and Abyssian, I think. They both have decent card draw.

3.) Anything with an OG is going to be more consistently useful. That counts for a lot when you’re struggling to establish a board.

Just reached Diamond with a Sajj deck (not artifacts) that runs Maw. I find it nice- this kind of extra damage can can kill things the opponent was expecting to have for another turn. I usually save it for a more profitable opportunity, almost never playing it turn one.

  1. The forums automatically format a list starting with “2.” as starting with “1.”, lol
  2. Id say stuff with plenty of minion damage- Abyssian with its pings, SimCity Zirix, pairing the 2 or 3 damage dealt by the dervishes, and so on.
  3. The faster a card plays its effect the better in this game I guess, and OG is about as close to Rush as it gets.
