Card Discussion Matron Elveiti

This card is far worse than what I’d hoped it would’ve been when the art was revealed. I’ve never seen it played at all.

I love the art and I feel the card could be good with the right changes. As it is now, the body and the effect are too weak for the 8 mana cost. Personally, I want to see just one minor change: “Minions cannot attack or counterattack your general.”

This would promote aggressive plays and provide immediate value when she enters play. If we saw this change, I’d want her to stay at 5 hp so it isn’t too terribly difficult to remove her (considering the massive mana investment made to play her).

Actually it works like that. Saw that thing in a game and while it was on the field my minions didn’t counterattack his general.

Really? Huh, interesting. I may have to go confirm this for myself some time. However, if this has always been the case, it seems she really does need more than that :frowning:

Sometime I like how this kind of thread reminds me that a card exists

Answers to the questions :

  1. Can’t confirm my impressions, never played it
  2. Never seen it

Maybe worthy for a stupid themed deck with some Sinister Silhouette, Quartermaster Gauj, Concealing Shroud …

I made a deck with two Matrons, played the deck 4 times, replaced her 2 times, didn’t draw her once, played her once and was dealt with immediately.

So I need to test more.

Or this was already a test.

This is a flavor legend- meant to be an over the top Concealing Shroud on a static ability. It would require a deck with an emphasis on building CA and locking- but as it is, is functionally unplayable because of Luminous Charge and Icebreak Ambush- which generate a type of CA, without having to build decks which compensate for Vanar’s cardflow issues (Ambush usually makes a pair of Snowchasers which have their infiltrate activated.)

The state of Vanar is such that the most effective way to play, is to recklessly ramp, and drop 5-6 mana spells until the opponent dies- and make such disgusting tempo gains, that your opponent can’t value around it. Therefore, these sort of soft-lock cards have largely fallen off (I actually wanted to make a Flawless Reflection build.)

The biggest problem with this card for me, is that it’s text is just plain wrong. If you attack an enemy minion with it, you don’t take any damage, which doesn’t line up with the description.

If this effect was on a cheaper card and given to Sajj, it could be amazing. As it stands, a 7/5 that turns your general into a buff pando in Vanar is nothing spectacular.

Grove Lion is better.

And cuter.

It kind of does, but it would be more clear if it said ‘and counterattack’.

At 6 mana so you could flawless reflect it would be better. At 8 mana you’re probably still better off with meltdown?

Confirmed.
No damage when your general attacks minion.

Would be good if it was ‘your general takes no damage from minions’. Immediate value, bigger threat. As is, not very good, but gives a nice body. If you want that though play Ghost Bae

Other than the fact that that’s almost exactly what the card does as you both cannot be counter attacked or damaged via Frenzy effects…

Oh really? The card text just says ‘attack’ which I assumed to mean just that, which would imply you can still be damaged by counter attacks and frenzy. Good to know!

Hey there,

Thanks for pointing out the fact that Matron hinders minions from counterattacking as well, I just informed the rest of the team

Which means this is a bug?

It’s a description issue, I doubt Mrs. Matron will have this effect removed  But it’s just my personal opinion 'till a Dev takes a look at this.

Yeah, fixing the description would be great! I think this is not just a problem for this card, but for other cards as well, which we discussed here among the community. If you see developers are responsive to this, I’m sure some nice guy can identify other cards with similar issues…
