Boss Battles Discussion/Feedback Thread

I think the boss is interesting; it’s easy if you have a strategy that counters his own (e.g. hitting him a lot to remove his artifacts), but he also creates an interesting challenge against slow decks.

That said, I think this is more of a showcase of what is possible even with simpler special rules; next week’s is going to be more awesome after this introduction, I think.

Wiped the floor with this guy using Disruption Faie with Pandoras

The AI leaves much to be desired, so I would advice to juice up the future bosses, if CPG want to make them really challenging, Calibero was really easy and played straight into the BBS multiple times.

I crushed it first try with aggro fae, but got an it lucky with triple flame bloods.

Overall, I think this is going to be a super cool thing in the future, although I would highly suggest including an optional “harder” mode like hearthstone heroic mode. The fight becomes far to easy with a deck even moderately reached against it.

I found the boss encounter to be pretty enjoyable. Calibero applied a lot of pressure in the beginning and I was forced to hide behind a Bloodmoon Priestess wall. No way AI could win after that. But the guys at Counterplay are a bunch of jerks and decided to give Calibero access to Circle of Desiccation.

I’m still sad. No one should lose like that. :sob:

Was pretty easy with my vet deck, apparently the A.I doesnt understand how Aymara’s Effect works nor do they understand Nosh-Rak. Plus i beat it likr 3 times over and over to get the reward but i still havent gotten it

well feedback huh? it’s extremely easy and i think it’s that way because this is the first boss battle, now that you’ve seen the skill of the player base you can raise the difficulties way higher with no problem.

the ai wasn’t as stupid as battlepet AI, and i like that but, i don’t see the reasoning for 20 hp. i was hoping that he would play aurora’s tears for synergy but he doesn’t.

overall pretty underwhelming but cool concept nonetheless, i was expecting cards that don’t exist in normal collection to be Calibero’s deck but well can’t expect you guys to waste so much resource on side game. all in all, thanks for the orb.

That boss’s deck was crafted in Continuous Draft mode. I call hacks!!!

I managed to beat it first try with my 39 Legendary deck! Sarlac the Eternal MVP!

Overall, this fight seems fun and a good starter battle. It seems slightly easier than gold rank ladder, but no where near as hard as diamond or S-rank. The changes (1 space forward, no mana orbs) are small enough to not alienate players or require specific cards, but impactful enough to justify tweaking decks

p.s. I would have won even without that Khymera RNG

The boss fight was definitely the most fun I had in a while.
I agree that it needs to be harder though.
It is definitely weak against direct damage decks.

It was fun to play  wish it could be more than only once a week. This 1st boss was pretty easy to defeat, I got him at 1st attempt w control Faie deck, no significant epic or legendary card. AI is…better now, but still …just a machine afterall, so the artifacts and mana advantage seemed enough for him.

I really enjoy the boss Battle!! I win with a mechazor faie deck, because frigid corona is too good against the boss and i almost oneshot It with mechazor+Spirit of the wild. But with other decks i expect this to be a hard challenge. Cant wait for the next

Before I forget, I want to bring forth the idea (I think again) of giving a premade deck for boss battles. A premade deck/general would:

-Create an equal playing field for all players
-Reduce errors & complications with AI interactions
-Allow the possibility of creating a storyline (adding to the lore and “single player campaign”)

I like your Boss Battle analysis very much. Especially as you used basic decks - this will help the devs in equalizing proper difficulties for future instances.

As I proposed the idea for fixed decks at two different places within this forum before, I will second (third) this one here, too. I´m positive this one is already at the Dev´s Radar

It wasn’t really… challenging… well, the AI makes some really dum decisions at times, and is very easy to predict/control. Perhaps there could be a difficulty setting based upon your ladder rank? I’m sure it’s hard to make AI such as this, but I hope it could be improved upon for future boss fights, I would love to see this gamemode be expanded and built on. Oh, and the boss deck needs more serpenti.

Not that I’ll ever afford it, but can I see the decklist for that? it sounds interesting

I enjoyed the boss battle, although I think it would be interesting to have difficulty levels (either easy and hard mode OR easy, normal, and hard mode) available to players, and scale the rewards appropriately for completing a difficulty. This could also go in conjunction with making boss battles more stage-orientated, where you have to beat easy mode to unlock the next difficulty.

Besides that, one of the things I would like to see on the enemy general is his Bloodborne spell. Now, when playing against Calibero, you can tell by turn 2 that his BBS is “0 mana: equip a random artifact [Arcylite Regalia, Staff of Y’Kir, Sunstone Bracers] to your general”. While mainly an aesthetic opinion, seeing his BBS and being activated may clear up reasonings for him equiping a random artifact, or add another level of play to the fight.

I think Calibero should have a health increase, although this could be implemented in higher difficulties instead in order to make him easy enough for beginners. Similarly, I would like to see him have at least 2 types of spells (or more, based on difficulty) to punish the opponent for playing in certain ways (such as a healing spell and Atarauch’s tears, yet able to pull ANY artifact), and to add a greater surprise factor when playing against him.

Regarding boss crates, I think they are a fair price, as you get 3 orbs, a gauntlet ticket, AND a normal crate key to open a normal crate (which contains 3 cosmetic items), all of which costs more than $5.00, so I can understand why a time limit is placed on them due to the nature of this deal. If you add extra difficulties, I think you can get away with upgrading the key (rare or epic), adding more orbs or gauntlet tickets as rewards, and then raise the price proportionally.

Was fun - I played him three times, enjoyed it. Difficulty seemed fairly easy, but as people have pointed out, would be very challenging for new players.

Improvements - make him say some stuff, give us some backstory, add difficulty.

Looking forward to the next one

Tried twice, won twice, but was a fun change.
Hoping the next one is harder.
Will probably fight him some more for fun.

I really think Boss AI should be improved (AI in general), because at one point he ran away from my Zir’An who could one-shot him and proceeded to summon 2 minions, not even one of which blocked my path (I only had 1 path) towards him.

Edit:

Oooh I like this idea!

I play for 4 months, and I am in gold rank for the first time with my Deck Abyss that i normally use i could not pass in 2 attempts, but with a Deck Vet i managed to pass, although it was a hard battle.

Impressions:

For a new player is a hard battle , but for a veteran , is really easy , with a good hand and good Deck is really easy

For older players a bigger challenge would be needed, with AI being targeted to attack the general more directly and preserve more of their HP instead of wasting on random minions

For my is really good , nice job !

Really well done.

Because it’s still AI, some deck can make it really easy, while other deck may have a more difficulty time dealing with it.
